It's for relaying outside temperature to the dash/radio and probably the ECM.

Looked at mine this morning and there is a little probe thing there. Is yours hanging behind the grill?

Well guess not that important because I took out my stock radio

Not that I can tell.. I see a few wires from that hole.. but it must be behind it because before I took out my stock radio over a week ago it still wad giving me a temp outside or unless it fell out within that week

You can still have it display on the radio, depending on which head unit you bought, or wire it up to display somewhere else if you want it bad enough.

On my buddy's G6 he wanted a better radio but still to keep all his information like oil life, temperature, etc, so he bought a dash kit and we did you see in the before and after pictures.

Just an idea.
