How do you like the 6.8 SPC? I keep debating a different caliber upper since .223 just isnt that much fun to shoot, and it does not have all that much practical use for what I would do.

I like it a lot, I'm torn between getting rid of it for a AR10 platform, SIG716 to be specific. The 6.8 is highly liked by the hog hunters, it still runs in a AR15 platform vs the slightly bulkier/heavier AR10 platform. A guy shooting a AR10 in .308 thought I was either shooting a .308 or over pressurizing 5.56 casing, he said it sounded like it had a lot more power than a 5.56 (you can tell it does in the kick as well). I think I would rather run different mags and a 6.8 upper than go with the cut down and renecked 5.56 casing known as 300 Blackout (7.62 bullet stuffed in a 5.56 case). In the end, I will end up keeping it and getting the 716 as an addition since I made the mistake of letting my first pistol go (Springfield Mil-Spec 1911) and wont make that mistake again!

I really want a Remington R-25 (AR-10 based) in 7mm-08. kinda pricey though. .300 AAC/Blackout/ect. is really intended to be sub sonic and suppressed. I dont have a lot of use for that.

Anyways, my brother in law had a .308 ar10. Bad ass gun.

I have a M98 based Mauser in .308. It needs a decelerator pad since the steel butt plate cuts into my collar bone. Old Mausers were not designed for comfort. Damn military stocks.

I think the 6.8 is a good balance between 5.56 and 3.08, I agree that the 300blk is a true "special purpose" cartridge and quite possibly a fad. A lot more thought went into the 6.8 than modifying a 5.56 cartridge to hold a AK based projectile, kind of a band aid if you ask me. That 7mm-08 sounds interesting.

If my memory is correct the, my first successful hunt was with a 7mm-08. That was when I was 12 and I have forgotten a lot since then. It is a very nice round.

I may have to see if I can arrange to try out a buddies 6.8 some time. My 5.56 will cloverleaf a 3 shot group at 50 yards (have not had a chance to get out to 100 yet) but it just does not feel like a rifle should. Its a lot of noise and no recoil. Not very satisfying to take to the range.

The 6.8 certainly has more recoil than the 5.56 and my Ruger is quite a bit heavier than my Sig. I think you'll enjoy shooting it. I still want the big .308 AR10 though, I just have no need for another AR platform right now... well, I am looking at the M&P 15-22 really hard right now.
