I play as well, but have gone the other direction and use virtualization on the computer to mold my tone. Amplitube is awesome.
I play a mid-range Ibanez. Love their electrics. Probably best bang for buck brand of guitar. Sounds like you went with some higher end, floating trem stuff. I hate having to tinker with the setups so much.
You can get away with playing/owning a guitar for cheaper, but sounds like you've already spent the coin. Now you just need motivation to play and enjoy your investment when bored... :banana:

Yep! I play two RG7620's with Dimarzios, big block trems, and EMG Afterburner pots. Love the tone! I would stick with my Marshall stack, but I need something a bit more articulate. Considering an Egnater Armageddon stack...but I may go with the Vengeance since it's 600 bucks less and has the same output, just no ISP decimator built in.
I actually play in a band...but our bassist works for a tax firm...so he's been way busy and doesn't have time to practice every week like before =/ I usually play through AxeFX at home (leave my amp at the practice building) because then I can use headphones and my neighbors don't call the cops

Yeah, bands can be tough. Been doing home recording for 11 years now and don't regret it. Still can't beat the energy you get from a room full of good players, but if you connect with the right people online those collaborations can actually turn out to be just as fruitful. I had one project end after 3+ years, but we put out a full length album and had enough misc material for another EP. That's about as much output as all the 'bands' I'd been in previously combined. Granted, drugs took a big bite out of some of that gigging time.

My old band had to drop out of a tour with Between the Buried and Me because our drummer was arrested for drug related charges. I still haven't forgiven that dick
I have been thinking about starting a little home project myself. I love playing prog metal, but I actually prefer stuff more along the lines of Tool, Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd.

You, me, and apparently 90% of the online rock community!
Check out homerecording.com (I no longer visit - but a good site nonetheless) if you're looking to connect and get the basics for doing decent recordings at your computer desk. Beware it's a whole 'nother music addiction, and you can sink a ton of money on software alone, and spending money (unlike hardware) doesn't guarantee success because you still need to understand how to get all the instrumentation to sit in the mix, etc. But if you're getting sick of waiting for/relying on others to get music made, then this IMO is really the only avenue. I also like the freedom to get music done when it fits into my schedule. Bands, as you're well aware, require a lot of effort to get together, write, and perform. Collaborations or solo material can be finished whenever, and no gear to lug around. Audience: the world.

Thanks for the advice!I want to keep my band going for sure, but the added ability to express my musical side in a way that otherwise would not fit in my main bands portfolio. Sort of the same situation that Maynard with Tool and starting Puscifer.

On the soloist note, Porcupine Tree's Steve Wilson is putting out some very good solo material, possibly better prog than what PT was doing (I'm an equal fan of those incarnations though). New album I guess leaked. I'm waiting for my Bluray to come in the mail.
[I'm not a fan of the Pucifier stuff... I just wish to hell he'd get APC back together!]

You mean the album he was doing with Mikael from Opeth?
What I've heard from some pretty damn reliable sources says that he is in studio finishing vocal tracks for the new Tool album. Which will be great since I've been waiting 6 years for a follow up to "10,000 Days".
Maynard and Billy have both said that there won't be another full length album from APC. Maybe a couple singles here and there...but no real album :banghead:

No, SW is releasing his third solo studio album early next month. This time instead of guest musicians, he's actually using the band he had from his last solo tour. This band, IMO, rivals PT in chops.
The Mikael/SW Storm Corrosion is old news. The 5.1 mixed version is cool, but the stereo CD was too much crammed into two channels. Also a huge deviation from their usual style. I rarely listen to it, fwiw.
Good to hear new Tool on the horizon, but I've heard that all before numerous times prior to every release. I don't hold by breath anymore.

Ahhh okay. I had read that SC was going to do some new stuff and thought I had missed some beta tracks or something. That song is fantastic! I love those guitar tones.

I believe it this time, since none of Maynards projects are touring this winter. He will only tour during the off season for his grapes at Caduceus Cellars, so it makes since to me that he isn't touring because he's busy in the studio. But then again...maybe I'm delusional from 6 years without a new Tool album.

I forgot to post this earlier (got caught up in a geo political discussion and then in music) but I spoke more with Vanessa at customer service about the Encore awd idea. I was told that if I were to order the system from a GM certified shop/dealer and have a GM certified shop/dealer do the install it would not void the warranty on the car. Price is dependant upon the region and local shop costs, but it will definitely be a hell of a lot cheaper than the Sadev system.
Just thought that I would share this little fun fact. I'm going to go to my dealer this Saturday and speak with the parts department about it. I will keep you guys updated on pricing and availability.

Well I have really just skimmed this post, but I do like the idea. Of course, if you want to run SCCA only. I would not switch from FWD. However you seem to be talking mostly about RALLY. Yes AWD is needed for RALLY for sure. The Encore idea sounds good. I might would consider trying to find a junked out Subaru Impreza. I think the footprint of an Impreza and a Sonic is close (No I did not do research at all--just a guess here). The driveshaft lenght can always be changed. But Subbie has a tough AWD system that is designed for a car body, whereas the Encore (is the Encore and Equinox the same?) system is designed for a truck/SUV. Im just saying the actual components for the Subbie may fit well. The Encore components may be a tad bit too big. (Yes I know nothing has been "designed" for the Sonic, but Subbie stuff may require a little less modifying).
Either way. I also would like to know how it turns out. If it turns out well (with Vanessas help) you might be able to SELL it to GM. Then an AWD "factory" option may exist soon.

The encore is based on the sonic chassis (smaller than the equinox). It will definitely be more of a direct swap. The wrx may be more available and cheaper.
It would be great if they offered factory AWD in the sonic and the Cruze. Maybe optional on the ltz and standard in the ss
