Yes. On the truck forums I have been on and currently are a part of when someone asks about a 2-4wd conversion it is usually advised to trade/sale and get one already equipped. I could only imagine it being more so the answer for a FWD car, but if the guy has the money, connections and desire I say go for it. It will be unique!

I completely agree! It will be sick and could put the Sonic into some races that it could never perform in the way it is. Please don't take what I said as an insult. I honestly have gotten hooked on the cheap quick mods that make this car more fun to drive and as soon as they start to hurt the reason I bought it (mpg's) I fully intend to stop.

I heard that. I traded my 350z in for my sonic so i wouldnt spend a ton of money on my car and save on insurance and gas. Now i see myself blowing money on my sonic to make it as fast as my z lol. Oh well its fun to do

The cooper is actually fwd. I could pony up for the countryman s that has their all4 awdc, but it is way too expensive and is god awful ugly.

You can get a year old contryman that is engineered and designed and has the tight aggressive suspension in it already.

Maybe its just me but I'm not willing to pony up to chopping up a vehicle i just paid over 20k for... Maybe find one that was totalled from the east coast flood or a salvage vehicle but not a prefectly good newer vehicle.

Anyways good luck with it if that is what floats your boat.

Mine was bought with the initial goal of it being a track car. Besides, buying something already made for racing takes all of the fun out of it. I'd rather hit the course in something I built and finish 3rd than take first with someone elses work. But like I said, my Sonic was purchased with the lone idea of a rally x winner and not a daily driver for the next 10 years.

Alright, here is the word from Sadev, specifically Pavel that I spoke with. Their SC90-20/150 will work with the 1.4 turbo with no problem. The only thing I'm waiting on is an answer on a rear axle. They did say that the fuel tank will have to be relocated (interior fuel cell) and exhaust re-routed for the drive shaft. So the build is in the works for us if anyone else is interested.

That may work. Have to check dimensions and what not, but that could also be a viable means of all wheel drive. I'm not sure what the cost of Sadev's differential is, but if the Encore is easier to locate and use it could be well worth it. Just need to be sure of the dependability and amount of power it can handle. Also if it can handle the tortures of performance driving or not. That is a great idea though! I will definitely look into it also!

Alright, between Christmas and musical business...I've been pretty busy this past week or two. But I did find out some interesting information as far as locating a rear axle goes. The Sonic and the 2nd gen WRX have rear axles with the exact same wheelbase. So it may be possible to do a plug and play with that whole assembly. I may hit up Pick-A-Part sometime soon for a rear axle, transfer case, and shafts. Now just to figure out a fuel system and exhaust layout! And to get an answer from Sadev on the price of that differential...which will be a good bit I'd venture to guess.

The 1.8 has the same rear axle as the 1.4, so it should be doable on either motor =)

Well in my case, doing an extensive swap like that wasn't really my goal. There would be a good bit of fabrication needed to make the EJ motor fit properly and still squeeze in the awd system. Where as now I know the 1.4, transaxle, and a front differential will fit without question. I just want to try and get those back tires spinning before I worry too much about that lol. Plus I want to still give the Sonic some credit

True! I was thinking it could run down the side and come out before the rear driver side tire. Probably drop a fuel cell in the trunk and just get rid of the fuel tank completely. Hell, I may move the battery and make room for a bigger turbo while I'm at it.
