I was cleaning the crud off of the rear window on my hatch and I noticed some decent scratches in the window. Like to the extent that a fingernail can catch them. Interestingly they are all over the window, not just where the wiper blade travels. Anyone else have this issue? The car is two years old, but I've had older cars with fewer or no scratches.

Most of them are about an inch or so long and they almost all are horizontal. That is the direction I typically wipe the window. Perhaps I do it while cleaning that window. Either the glass is somewhat "soft", or there is some very abrasive grit in the slop they use for anti-skid here in Pa.

Ah, I see - didn't realize you're talking about salt/sand that's on the roads.
When I lived up north, there was plenty of that for years. I've never had that scratch my windows and I've used gas station squee-gees a bunch of times on really gritty windows.
Not sure what's caused it. If it's scratching it deep enough to feel with a fingernail, you'd think that you'd hear it being scratched like that.
