Shaking when starting, possible misfire

When I was a tech a BMW there were 2 occasions in a year where we pulled a part off a new car to fix a customers car since they really needed the car and parts wouldn't arrive for awhile. When the parts did come in I threw them on the new car.

I've not really heard about it before but it has happened. If they find a problem but can't get parts in time you may still be in luck.... it may or may not take some serious pleading and maybe some persuasion by Matt or Vanessa from the forum... that just if it comes to that, I for one would not want to miss such a big trip.

And there you have it. BMW doesn't have a rabid fan base or anything. Same reason if Caddie made a version of the Sonic. I'd be so on it, it would make the RS look like a toy. And cost about 28k.

But, it would have at least the 1.6L or diesel, magnetic suspension, and CUE. It would still get over 30mpg too.

Bimmers are pretty darn nice and have exemplary engineering. If only they had a utilitarian line: keep all the driving dynamics and power, lose all the butt massagers and other gadgets, omg amazing.

Anyway back on topic. Another point of importance about my story is that BMW is incredibly strict on their warranty work, by the book is another way of putting it. If the dealer I was at was able to flex to satisfy the customer then a decent GM dealer should be even more likely to make things work in OPs favor.

Of course that's just if he has to wait on parts. Which hopefully will not be needed

You made my point, if Caddie/BMW can do it so can Chevy. I get the price point thing, but service sell.

Oh, and don't get me started on German engineering. Complexity has limits, and they aren't long term.

My wife's last car was a Mitsubishi outlander, which was actually a surprisingly good car, but the dealer was TERRIBLE!

I ordered a simple trim piece for the rear seat slider and they kept ordering the wrong part. After the third try I insisted that they sell me the piece from a new car on their lot and they refused saying that someone might come in to buy that car. They had about 12 new Outlanders on the lot, and the chances of them selling all of them before the part came in was zero. The part would have taken about 30 seconds to remove from another car. When they finally called me to tell me the part came in, I told them to give me a refund because I traded the car in at the Mazda dealer across the street for a CX-9.

I'd have no problem taking a loaner as long as it had cruise control and equal or better fuel economy. The problem may be if they will allow it. The rental agreement says I can't take it out of the state, and I've yet to see a rental car that you can take across the border.

Also, it means they eat 4500 miles on a loaner, not just a few hundred city driving as would be the norm.

I guess we'll see in the morning. My mom has been a GM warranty admin most of my life, so if the dealer gives me any guff, I have ALL the contacts I need to raise some hell.

All of the GM dealers that I have dealt with recently have been extremely concerned about how I fill out the questionnaire about how well their service staff performed. The consensus was that if I couldn't answer all of the questions with an extremely satisfied response; they wanted to know about it, and would do whatever steps necessary for me to give that response to the survey. Whatever happened to that program? Somehow Corporate GM put the fear of god into the dealers I deal with to perform their responsibilities in a professional and timely manner.

Mitoni, I'm anxious to hear how this all plays out, and hope that your dealer will step up and meet your expectations.

If I were you I'd just take it.

I've seen dealer loaners for sale with tens of thousands of miles on them, so I really don't think the mileage is an issue.

Also, I've crossed the border in a rental before. We had no issue on the way in but on the way out they asked who owned the car and my dad said "Budget". Then they let us go.

This is the bane of my engineering background. The coils pack is changed and the rest of the ignition system is not checked. Instead drive around, and wait for a code...
