SOF Picture Challenge (Take 2)

I took that first pic yesterday, thinking I would eventually have to use it for one of these. I think that should count.

Okay, I got new pics of the previous challenge and my new challenge.

Picture of myself with the car:

It's dark out. It counts.
I have a big nose. I know.


Now, the new challenge is to take a picture of your car with a sign of some sort. Such as a stop sign.

Family parking! Your Sonic with at least one family member's car. I know.. Easy but trying to keep it going!

Dammit I am 1500 miles away from the nearest family member's car. If only you hadn't ruled out pre-existing pics I might have something filed away.

Again, be creative!! If your family is that far away, surely your friends or coworkers are like family?

I will be back in PA in under a week, if people are still slacking off I can get a pic with my daughter's 1999 Altima or maybe my GF's 1990 Ranger. Yep yep, we can really class up this contest all right!

The people here that are like family to me don't own cars. Hmm, maybe that's why they hang out with me so much, I am their ride into town!

Here's my Sonic next to the Golden Spice, a local restaurant that we've long called FUA due to this mysterious piece of graffiti that's been there since they opened.

And for your challenge, Yellow Car. Fans of Cabin Pressure will know why, anyone who doesn't should go listen to Cabin Pressure. Ottery Saint Mary, specifically.

I swear, when I first saw that checkered duct tape, I thought it was hideous. But it is subtle enough on the rockers that it has grown on me. Still can't say the same for the rear appliqué, but then again, I never thought I'd approve of the tape on the rockers....... And now I do.opcorn:

I just put the tape on as a joke among my friends, since we use Duck Tape to repair everything. Thought it would be there a week and then come off in favor of some Plastidip or something, anything, to cover up that chrome. Instead I ended up putting more on, and the hard part was stopping before I overdid it. But where's my picture of Derploader next to a yellow car?

Although to be honest, I can't take full credit for the second photo because I was driving. haha

Technically, that wasn't a rolling shot just because you don't see the wheels/background moving.


Some advice for rolling/panning shots.

focus the camera on the car while it moves. Try to aim for the front of the car, and move (pan) the camera as the car drives by as if you were filming the car. (this technique is called "panning")
If you have a camera that lets you adjust the aperture and shutter speed settings, you want to have a lower shutter speed (and compensate with a higher apeture setting) for the moving wheel/background effect.
If you don't have a camera that lets you do that, just try taking a pic of the car on the highway, or try getting a pic when the sun starts going down (but not so dark that you don't see anything.)

You'd be surprised how much us old guys know about photography! I've sold off all my SLR's because film is obsolete now. I haven't bought a digital SLR yet because I really can't justify the expense. I'm ok with a point-and-shoot digital for now. A Nikon D3200 would be nice!! :banana:
