I haven't tried anything different yet, I think I hit the nail the first time, and it worked so good cooling the intake temp down. I couldn't believe how hot the iamt got when we took that stock air box out. and I tried to design this one so it just slips on the back of the hood without and holes of any kind. but we are always thinking here, problem is the time to do it.

So what prevents you scooping up water and dumping it into the intake? I had considered getting one of those glue on fake hood scoops, cutting a hole into the hood and turning it into a real scoop, but I was worried about water on rainy days. I like your solution a lot more for many reasons... but I don't see that it deals with this issue any more than mine would have.

We have also thought about that, funny thing I found is that the filter area is so sealed off now that there is pressure inside the filter area and under normal driving so much air is trying to go down the scoop that it actually forms a buffer right outside the scoop opening on the hood, found this out driving the car after I washed it , all the water around the scoop was gone but there was water in front of the scoop in a semicircle. Took it back out, laid it on the wood up to 80 pulled over quick and looked, it was gone, the only time it really pulls air hard is when u are on it and making boost. But just to be sure we drilled 2 5/16" holes in the floor under the area as it curves around and under the hood which actually goes uphill a little to go through the cowl opening into the air box. Apparently there is a lot more air trying to go down the scoop than the engine needs at just cruise. I will have to drive it in a hard rain to see for sure if water gets in the filter

I know this is completely off the subject but I am a stickler about noises. I was surprised when I first bought this car that for a little car it was relatively quiet as far as road noise, most little cars sound like you are riding a skateboard lol, ( I usually drive suburbans which have NO ROAD NOISE. Well anyway I sprayed 6 heavy coats of 3m rubberized undercoating on the plastic well covers in the wheel wells and it made a huge difference in the road noise inside the car. insulated it real good, now it sounds like you are driving a big buick or something more expensive lol

Your sprayed the black plastic wheel well liners? 6 coats wow. Did you spray any exposed metal/frame areas? I notice there are some exposed metal portions such as where the exhaust mount in the rear wheel well.. not sure whey there is no under coating there...I surmise because its a cheaper car?

no I just did the immediate area around the wheel that are on the body side, when I have the wheels off I will do the rest because I noticed some areas too that could use it on the metal

Hey all,

I built myself a reprap 3d printer about 2 years ago and just got her back up and running after moving to a new town. I might consider making myself a scoop like this if the mood suits me over the next few days. I'd be interested in how the material would stand up to the elements while driving around in the summer/winter
