Hi, my 1st post. Bought a 2012 LTZ 1.4 6 speed manual with 13,000 miles. The test drive went well and then decided to purchase. Nice car with some pep, has decent room in it. The next morning, start the car, I hear a whinning sound as I drive to work. I then went to the dealer a week later because he promised to change the coolant. Took it for a test drive and heard the sound but wasn't sure of the problem right away but later told me that it was the transmission but was still acceptable. They told me if it became louder, they would change it. A few days after that it started jumping out of second gear only from 1st to 2nd shifts. It happened 5-6 times in a matter of 10 days and the whinning became louder. Brought the car in and agreed to change the transmission.Have a new transmission now,but is the new one improved over the old one?

You could check the part # to see if it's the same model (I presume it would be). 2012 with such low miles I think you'll be OK with the new one for many years.
There's a DIY on changing the transmission fluid to Amsoil Synchromesh that is recommended mainly because the theory was that GM was under filling them from the factory to <2 qts. The writeup calls for 2.5qts and should help with cooling, grinding, and overall longevity. It fixed my 1-2 grinding issue and I have a 2013 with 49k. I did the fluid swap about 6k miles ago.
I recommend Amsoil Synchromesh can't speak for any other kinds of gear oil.

Mine's been "whining" for years. It sounds more like a sewing machine at full go... even does it when coasting.
My 4th gear used to be pretty bad...the dealership said it's because the 4th gear gearing is almost straight cut (makes more noise than helical)...
