Doesn't the compressor shut off automatically at WOT?

Apparently not and that kinda sucks too.
Every GM I had up until the Sonic did this and it was nice because all you had to do was go WOT and you had all the power possible.


Though, this wouldn't help launching from a dead stop unless you like cooking your clutch.

Like ChrisJ said, it does not, but there is a setting for that so in about 5 seconds you could change it so it does. Without being in front of my laptop it think the factory setting is to disable the AC at 125% pedal position, which of course won't ever happen, to enable you would obviously set it to something like 95%.

Was at the barbershop this morning and read an interesting article. It's in the October issue of Car and Driver. Wasn't able to find the article online yet, but it's about a company that installed a Valeo electric supercharger on a 1.0 liter turbocharged Ford engine. Not huge results, but .3 sec off 0-60 and virtually eliminated turbo lag. No peak power increase, but increase in lower rpms before the turbo builds enough boost to "blow by" it.

That sounds like the same idea; little supercharger helping out the turbocharger so the little engine spends more time acting like a bigger engine when you want it to, but you can still drive around on the little one just sipping fuel most of the time.

Exactly. It just fills the gap until the turbo takes over.

Mpfab should attempt this with his new turbo kit, it would give the low end boost a bit of a bumb.

This electric super charger technology for turbo cars is straight from Formula 1. The same technology is also onboard the new McClaren P1 and the Porsche 918. The Ford Fiesta that uses this technology is a 3 cylinder engine with only 1.0L. They use an electric supercharge for the first .5 seconds of acceleration. The electric motor driving the super charger spins it from 0 to 70,000 RPM in .350 mil seconds. The engine has 167 HP with 148 Ftq.

The Sonic's 1.4T would have to be re-engineered to be able to use an electric super charger. However, why bother, the Trifecta budget tune is inexpensive and easily available and the end result is superior to Ford's Fiesta...expensive 3 cylinder.
