Not necessarily. The correct answer is "it depends", and "not directly".

On other vehicles with OEM touchscreen/video units that do not provide an video AUX-in option, there are work-around adapters that can provide that.

It may be possible, depending on the video interface used. Without more information, you shouldn't assume.

With any luck the display unit uses a more common RGB inteface therefore it may be reasonably done.

Don't even have a video-in-motion override out yet.

The problem with MyLink in older Sonics comes down to one thing - OnStar.
MyLink and OnStar are crazy integrated, you'd basically have to install the new OnStar equipment.

Hell, when I called OnStar to ensure the bast@rds knew I wanted to opt-out, it showed "Calling OnStar" onscreen and even pops up a cancel button.

The mic input I believe is OnStar, etc.
If you order the "OnStar delete" package (fleet option) it automatically makes you ineligible to have MyLink.

ie; You order a 2013 LTZ that comes standard with MyLink and is part of the price, but you also order an OnStar delete, you get the $hitty radio instead.

Not only that but MYlink also controls some aspects of the car as well.

I am still looking at local junkyards for one to shop up. All that is really needed is a working head unit, power supply and windows computer to start. I am not sure EXACTLY how the operatying system was put together but I am SURE that there is a post to connect to(in not the existing USB) to begin the process.

Actually I'm referring to the video signal interface. This is independent of firmware or programming interfaces.

So from what I can tell, you will have to put the car in park to view pictures and/or videos.

These videos show the woman putting the car in park before a slideshow and the other shows the text at the bottom, "car must be in park" during the video demonstration.

This worries me since it may be more difficult to develop a workaround as it doesnt seem to be a simple E-brake bypass like most 3rd party units.

Does anyone have some experience or insight as to a possible workaround? This is definitely something I would like to figure out.

I'm still trying to figure out how to put my MT in "Park" ... is that an extra option I did not get from the dealer?

Logically thinking, this tells me that unless there is a specific software difference between units in the MT & AT cars, then it has to be the hand brake.

"For video in motion bypass: I wouldn't expect to have to modify the software. Typically it would be interrupting the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) or similiar input in the harness that the head unit uses to know the vehicle is in motion. Of course, this makes some assumptions.

Also maybe there are "test modes" like in other head units in other vehicles.

If the signal is from a CAN bus then its a lot harder.

I happened to be on my way to the dealer to pick up a couple things when the diagnostic screen popped up. I showed the sales guy (a friend of mine) and the service manager. Service manager's response was "that's weird. It shouldn't do that."

(un)fortunately it hasn't happened again other than once more on the way home from the dealer. I hate non-reproducible crap.

Yeah, Windows CE is ancient. People forget just how long Windows XP has been around. I chuckle every time I go to my optometrist because one of her diagnostic machines runs Windows XP Embedded. Microsoft has a lot of stuff still based on really old code.

I worked at a place not long ago that had a fob entry system to the building, it was still running on Windows 3.11......

ps, That box still needs reflashed - "That shouldn't happen" isn't where that conversation should end.
(It shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to reflash, and has he said, it shouldn't happen)

I was really hoping to upgrade to mylink but I wouldnt want to give up my steering wheel controls for it
