I couldn't agree more. I bought a new 2012 LT with 75 miles. The first major failure was at 1200 miles, and after four years I've had 72 trips to the dealership for repairs.

Buying a Sonic was the worst mistake of my adult life. To anyone reading this, if you can return yours I HIGHLY recommend you do so. Chevy will fight you on repairs and dodge accountability every step of the way.

The versa is junk. The sonic was best car in its class last i checked. I test drove the versa also drove like a wet sock. Its your money so buy what you want and drive your ego around dont phase me none.

My father retired from GM so they put food on my table growing up and still pay his pension. I've owned every brand under the sun but buying new I will always buy UAW american made, american brand cars to keep my money in the USA and support my neighbors. Might not be anything technically wrong with foreign cars, but for me its more about supporting the american economy with all profits staying here.

I have owned just about 23 cars new to old fast and slow . This was an easy pick for me chevy stepped up their game for the sub compact car. I will still own a Cherokee XJ and drive my sonic till the wheels fall off.

You missed the whole point. I was saying that the OP will most likely have a problem with any brand foreign or domestic.
He stated that he wanted to get rid of the Sonic and was going to buy another brand of foreign car.
Wasn't a slam on foreign, was simply stating.
Some people are unable to be happy with anything they own unless perfect.
So I also wished them good luck with that as all the brands have some fault at some point.
Also stated that he bought it for 15k and has cost him 50k.
Not quite sure how? Maybe because time off work? Then he makes a lot more than most of us.
He bought a 2012 model which are more problematic, but not unfixable.
Is the Sonic perfect, No. Is it good for most to commute with, Yes.
I have owned numerous "foreign" cars.
They all have had their issues. That being said my domestics also have had problems. I do find them to be less expensive to fix/repair though most of the time.
Has my Sonic had issues? Of course. I simply took care of the things I could.
When I bought this I was not expecting champagne on a Mt.Dew diet.
I saw this car as an eco box and planned to drive it into the ground on a daily basis.
Also I believe the OP's dealer troubles may be part of the problem he is having.
I use a really good dealer close to my work and they take very good care of the customer. I am truly sorry his dealer has failed him.

Every car including the AMG line from benz has issues. Cant speak for older model sonics usually its a good rule of thumb to not buy the first year of a new car release. If you want the most reliable car for under 5k go buy a 94-98 cherokee xj. Easiest to work on and parts a pleanty. No way is anyone going to spend 50k on a 15k car in repairs just impossible they would just give you two or three new sonics if they knew you had to spend over 10k on repairs each of your 7500 visits to the dealer .

Yes I had an SLK32 model and the intercooler pump went out. Repaired myself because dealer wanted many $$$ for the fix.
Ending up just buying a pump from Johnson controls and installing.
Not to mention all of the trouble the power top had.

Well, that might have been fine a decade or more ago. But we are now a tier 3 economy moving to a tier 4. Our role will change from services to governing. This means less made in America and more made elsewhere governed by America. If this change happens, old school thinking of buying built locally won't be available.

Just some food for thought. Also, the Sonic is a godsend compared to my wife's Spark when it comes to reliability. The Spark has been in 4 times as much as my Sonic. So be grateful you jerks!

Crappy dealership service is a direct result of a crappier parent company. All 4 of my local Chevy dealerships are overwhelmed with service requests due to GM's terrible QC.

I sought repairs under warranty, GM pushes back on the dealership techs to say they can't find anything wrong; especially when it comes to electrical issues, which accounts for damn near everything on the car.

I'm glad you had a good experience, but the class action lawsuits, recalls, and tens of thousands of unhappy customers should make it pretty clear that quality issues with their cars are FAR from unusual.

I deeply regret giving them the benefit of the doubt.

You need to get your facts right.
GM has won many customer satisfaction awards and are building many top flight cars and and trucks that are cutting edge. Chevrolet has won more awards, and customer satisfaction awards than any other car company in the last two years.

Both of my current UAW built vehicles are over 60% USA parts content. One vehicle was assembled in a factory within 20 miles of my house that I spent 6 months installing the tool cells to manufacture the vehicle. I was just there over the weekend to work on some changes for some added processes for another vehicle.

I guess maybe instead of supporting jobs in my own country ( the number of supporting jobs associated with an auto plant is huge compared to the number of workers at the plant) I should just continue to help drive middle class jobs out of the country by not buying anything made here.

I buy the $300 100% USA work boot that will last 4 years compared to the $200 made in China boot that will last 1.5 years tops. I also wont buy the $30k+ Buick Envision since it is built in China and imported here. I hope that one bites GM in the butt, but people wont bother to look where its made before forking over the money.

I have more than one degree, make decent amounts of money, and yet another whom thinks the middle class "Needs to get Educated"
The middle class carries most of everything that happens in this country.
We pay the most taxes, and provide service and goods for a wide variety of needs in this country. It's no surprise.
I suppose your education entitles you.
SO does mine. Along with the guys and gals working as electricians, plumbers, builders, truck drivers, auto workers, just about every one who goes to work each and every day even without a degree,---let me tell you those folks earn their money.
They all work hard to support their families. I see people working hard everywhere just to have some person tell them "Oh you should have been smarter/got better education.
Listen each and every one of us has a story, some are pretty crappy, and some are just peachy. And as for the "Need to come forward from the 40's and 50's , maybe you need to consider changing your "I surrender" attitude and start thinking winning.
Never accept being defeated/or conforming. Think win. Think work harder not being told too bad you just can't.
If you are complacent about our jobs leaving then you do no service other than take up good air that our "middle" class could use.

Manufacturing jobs leave due to cheap labor in other countries, cheap customers that demand the lowest price no matter what it actually costs the country, greedy companies, bean counters that only look at the bottom line for here and now, and stupid customers that wont look to see where something is made.

Get rid of the middle class and you have a few upper class and a whole lot of people just scraping by. The middle class is what allows this country to work. Get rid of the middle class and we will be in a world of **** that I doubt the majority on this forum could imagine.

I have two degrees (okay its a double associates, but I didnt want a ****ty desk job) and then 9 years ago started in a 5 year apprenticeship. A piece of paper doesnt mean a whole lot to me. I find it funny when I have to correct a well educated engineer on how to make something they designed actually work. I am talking engineers that went to school at least as long as I was a mere apprentice just so that I could be an uneducated dirty construction worker.

What good is being well educated if your job is outsourced to another country? Education is useless if there is no market for your skills. Personally I find it rather stupid to spend what it costs for this supposed "more well educated" schooling just to either have a low paying job or no job at all. All total my education was probably less than most "well educated" people pay for one year of schooling, and I dont have years of student debt.

I might just be one of those dumb construction workers but it allows me to have a decent life, soon to be fantastic wife, and not have to worry about her crappy paying job that pays less than I do in taxes in a year.



I have driven GM products since 2000. A total of 3 Cavaliers ('98 went to a scrap yard last fall, '00 that I totaled in '04, and '02 that went to a scrapyard last fall as well), 2 Sonics ('12 LT that should be back from getting rear ended tomorrow, '12 LTZ that I picked up last year and just didnt have the time for so I sold to a friend), '96 K1500 (just sold to a friend yesterday), and a '16 Colorado. I spent 7 years working in GM dealers. My mother worked for GM for 35 years, one grandpa retired from Fisher Body, and the other grandpa retired from GM. I buy what I know, what I trust to not fail on me, and what has allowed my family to do as well as it has. The majority of the jobs I go to for work are also at GM facilities. Orion Assembly included.

GM quality is not as bad as some of you guys make it out to be. A few lemons and the world is coming to an end.

Not to get too political here, but Americans only have themselves to blame. They want a $15 MW, BOCare, paid sick leave, etc. But they also want $99 Black Friday big screen TVs and $10 jeans. You can't have both.

This is just the start for GM. they quietly started making ALL of the newly available 2017 Cruze hatchbacks in Mexico, so only the 2016+ Cruze Sedan is made in Lordstown,OH.

I would love a cruze hatchback, no way I would buy one made in Mexico. That also goes for the Silverado 1500 Crewcab, will not buy one of those either since its made in mexico, sad part is that's what I see everyone around here buys.
