Throttle shifting, any reason to not throttle shift all the time?

This is for the Manual guys. Is throttle shifting (up and/or down) bad for this car? I'm not sure how it would be but I've gotten into a bad habit of rev matching..... all the time. I don't want to eventually damage something. I do plan on getting the lower trans mount to eliminate some of the forward back motion, and for less wheel hop of course. Let me know your thoughts please!

Not the best idea. As good as you think you are at doing this; the synchronizers in the transmission will eventually prematurely wear out. The clutch is your friend.
Save this skill for driving a semi-tractor.

Just a thought, but if one were going to spend the money to replace the engine and trans mounts, wouldn't it also make sense to invest in a lightweight flywheel?

I've been hearing that ours is super heavy because it "helps" first time manual drivers, but that it has a detrimental effect on the lifespan of the transmission. True?

I would think so? Also with a lighter fly wheel the RMP's would travel quicker making it slightly faster. Wouldn't you get more low end tq with a lighter flywheel? Or is that backwards. I know my buddy has a hot rod and it had like a 38lb flywheel to begin with and he put a light weight (like 15lbs) and it wrapped up like a 4cylinder car. Be worth looking into for sure

I think having a lighter flywheel decreases the rotational inertia of the engine, which in-turn allows the transmission and engine to sync up faster when the clutch is let out. I don't think it increases torque, per-se, but it probably doesn't require as much gas to get the car rolling from a stand still.

It would probably make the car easier to stall, but would also make it easier to control the revs.

I'm not sure either, maybe someone who has put in an aftermarket flywheel in the Sonic will chime in. It's got me thinking. If one were too have TC & stabili trak off, have upgraded trans & motor mounts, with a lighter flywheel, could we then actually get a good launch out of this car? Hmmmmm

I just did my hwk on flywheels. I have noticed that I do have it backwards! If you want to launch & launch hard a heavier flywheel will catch harder. Also with a lighter flywheel shifting this car will be a pain because the RPM's will fall too quick. Maybe not when you're WOT but when you're just cruising through a neighborhood it will get annoying. I refered back to my brother who works on diesels saying he uses heavier flywheels for launching/pulling. Just my opinion though..
