To wax, or not to wax, that is the question!

I want to put this to bed before misinformation spreads like wildfire. Here's the part the 2014 Owners manual that the OP is talking about. I'm not sure what they mean when they say aftermarket clearcoat sealant but it isn't just normal waxing.

Application of aftermarket clearcoat
sealant/wax materials is not
recommended. If painted surfaces
are damaged, see your dealer to
have the damage assessed and
repaired. Foreign materials such as
calcium chloride and other salts, ice
melting agents, road oil and tar, tree
sap, bird droppings, chemicals from
industrial chimneys, etc., can
damage the vehicle's finish if they
remain on painted surfaces. Wash
the vehicle as soon as possible.
If necessary, use non-abrasive
cleaners that are marked safe for
painted surfaces to remove foreign
matter.
Occasional hand waxing or mild
polishing should be done to remove
residue from the paint finish. See
your dealer for approved cleaning
products.
Do not apply waxes or polishes to
uncoated plastic, vinyl, rubber,
decals, simulated wood, or flat paint
as damage can occur.

I think over this summer I will ocasionally wax one side of my hood and see which looks better before next winter. I will always use a fresh microfiber to apply the wax, and ill use wax only (not cleaner wax). I know from past experience that a freshly waxed surface will attract more dust and pollen. I'm not sure if its from static or from the wax being slightly tacky.
I know also, like $ub$onic said... The debris on the rag will mark the actual surface of the paint. I don't think there is any way to prevent that. Anything that is marking the actual surface is is bound to cause a certain amount of cloudiness or haze. No matter how well a person buffs the wax off, there will be streaky marks to be seen under the right lighting. There is now way around it.
I hate walking around and seeing cars that haven't been treated properly and I've always believed that waxing is nessicary to achieve that. I also believe that if it ain't broke don't fix it. To me waxing seems to make paint look better, but know that on occasion I have used it when it wasn't needed.
I'm not trying to mislead anyone. It's your car you do what you think is right.

My car was in a small impact a year ago. The shop repainted rear left quarter...and left buffer burn all over the place. I noticed it two days later when looking at it in direct sunlight.
They didn't burn through it, though. I took it back and they got rid of the buffer marks with a milt cutting compound and hand-buffing.

Exactly. What they're saying is, don't let Jerry Lundegaard try to push Truecoat on you. No, they do not install that at the factory, youbetcha.
Hand waxing is just fine.
