I'm interested if anyone has any insight on this. Took my 1.4 6sp manual out last weekend, around 45 degrees ambient temp out. Nice flat road, got up to 114 mph and didn't seem to have much left. It took the better part of half a mile to get from 110 to 114, and I was only seeing 10 psi of boost. I was in fifth, around 4 to 4500 rpm. Seems to me I should have been getting more boost at that point. I don't think even with more road I would have gotten more than a few more mph. Maybe I just got and extra slow one?

Nah man i have an intake, exhaust and tune... And my car got there pretty fast. Idk how much more it had left though. 120 seemed pretty easy but it was fading fast. Also I was only seeing 20-21 psi.... Soooo Would BPV upgrade fix this?

Do it again in 4th gear. Without a tune your top speed will be achieved in 4th and should be right around 120mph depending on conditions.

A BPV will not fix that, an electronic boost controller will.

From what I understand of the stock torque management is it will adj boost psi and I think a few other calibrations to maintain a near identical power output at the wheels despite changes in temp or some mods (hence the learn down ppl refer to). The ecm trys to keep the car feeling the same wheter its 110F out or 30 . That could be the cause of the lower boost pressure you witnessed, with the cooler denser air the ecm pulled boost back from the 16psi max to keep max power consistent.

Somewhere on wot-tuning.com Vince from trifect explains torque management and the above is my interpretation of it, sooo take it with a grain of salt.


As Theenics said stay in 4th longer, you can hit ~124 in that gear, personally I don't like holding the rpms so close to redline for very long so I click 5th at 122-123. And yes it does take an eternity to get past 115mph stock :/

Do it again in 4th gear. Without a tune your top speed will be achieved in 4th and should be right around 120mph depending on conditions.

I hit 121mph with 3 people in the car and bone stock and it was still pulling very slowly but I think it had a couple more mph in it if the crosswind wouldn't of made me slow down.

I got rid of my r6 because of this....I got too used to doing 160...figured that being comfortable going that fast probably wasn't such a good thing

Yep that's exacily y I Dont ride sport bikes. I get in trouble. Kinda hard to get a speeding ticket on a Harley they Dont tend to do 100mph unless ur trying

My 08 Nightster doesn't like going slow.... Most of the time it rolls as quickly as it can to 10+ the speed limit and then I have to hold it back after that. It's even embarrassed a couple of kids thinking their hacked up turbo integra was something special.

I got a 883 sportster shut up I put a smaller rear sprocket in it. It likes 65 vs 55 now if I rip on it it will do 110 but its a little sketchy . Friend of mine at work let me ride his 2012 wide glide with a screaming eagle motor and a 6 speed... of walked passed 130 very scary bike

Stroke the 883! Once I get the bike paid off I might put cams in it and retune it.

Its in the works Its already camed I'm gonna convert it to a 1200 later on.. right now its just running out gears I haven't maxed it yet with the new sprocket so I'll have to see. I gotta retune though my pipes are running 500degrees

Thanks sx sonic. Makes sense. Even during the summer most boost I've seen is 13 for a brief second. I don't know, maybe just got a slug. Think I'm gonna try again in fourth and see what happens. Definately seems to make s*** for power above 5k tho.

My 5.9 is 500hp . 100hp Injectors spool assist transmission tune and a bull dog tune..... and a Detroit locker to plant the power to the ground

There's a pic of mine... its a 05. I pull a 43 ft horse trailer with living quarters with it. Its a good truck 21 mpg but with the mods u can burrie the pyro pretty quickly so u gotta time it right. That sucker will do 120mph. The turbo sounds like its coming through the hood

True. But it's also hard for a cop that's at a stand still on the side of the highway to catch up to me when I'm doing 140+. I'll be a mile down the road by the time he gets his seat belt on.....at least that's what I used to do....now I have a Honda ruckus....pretty sure I'll never get pulled over for riding full throttle (~38mph) unless I'm in a school zone....
