Ok, I unboxed the hitch this afternoon...

Looks pretty good. Nicer welds than I've seen on other hitches...

The draw bar and instructions both bear something along these lines:

Maximum loads the LESSER of 200 lb Tongue, 2000 lbs towing OR the car's rating.

Now, I know that GM has not rated these cars for towing. The Engineer in me tells me that the rating is 0 lbs...

But like I said, I'm not towing...

Ok classrc , which brand did you get ? did it include the part you bolt the ball thru ? and can you post pics ?

I got the Hidden Hitch pn 60295 and it came with the draw bar kit pn 3590. I've taken pics, but don't currently have them hosted anywhere at the moment. I'll email them to anyone that pm's me in the meantime...

Ok, I installed it this afternoon. I'll try to get a DYI write up done tonight... I'll include pics of the warning label.

The tow rating for cars sold outside the US is 1,100lbs. with no brakes and 1,800lbs. with brakes. Remember, that's with the less powerful engines.

Thanks, and its a long story...

I worked on a project at a previous job (DCX) that was an experiment to increase structural rigidity in vehicles.

Our test subject was an older Durango (body on frame). We essentially seperated the body from the frame and "glued" the two back together. After cured, we reinstalled the mounting bolts for safety (shouldn't have been necessary).

We also performed before and after measurements for chassis rigidity and NVH.

As expected, rigidity went through the roof, but so did NVH... :D

I used the Grey High Torque because it is very similar to what we used on the Durango. An added benefit is that is will also seal the bolted joint.

With the torque on the bolts (50 ft-lbs), the RTV gets mostly squished out, making for metal to metal contact, for a proper bolted joint. The RTV fills in the low spots. The only downside will be removal if you're worried about that...

Curt Hitch

I got an email response from Curt and he said their hitch for the 5dr Sonic would be ready in a "couple weeks". Personally, I prefer Curt hitches and am going to wait for theirs. They seem to have good corrosion protection IME.

great piocs , but i didnt see the arm that slides into the reciever . did it come with the hitch ? I know you only intend to use a carrier with it and not tow . good idea with the sealant , will rustproof the area too ..
