Trunk won't open

I a newbie and I did a search on this to no avail
I have a 2013 Sonic coup and the trunk will not open tried release by license plate and both key fobs doesn't even click had to crawl inside and pull emergency release to get groceries out checked fuses all OK any suggestions

Sounds like you'll need to troubleshoot the latch solenoid, if that works then the signal from the BCM isn't making it to the solenoid which I guess would be wiring at that point.

I can here a relay clicking under the dash when I use the key fob or the release under license plate any ideas

I've not had to look into this issue on the Sonic before but if you can hear a relay under the dash it sounds like the BCM is doing it's thing, I haven't had to dig around under the dash and find it either.

Sounds like your best bet is to start at the trunk and test the latch release solenoid and work back towards the relay.

One solution reported in the past was to disconnect the battery, wait ten minutes, then hook it back up. The automotive equivalent of unplug the computer and plug it back in. I guess the idea is that the onboard computer is confused and needs a hard reboot.
