The point was not to cool the engine by opening the hood or to try and cool the entire engine with "convection".

i agree. its not good if your turbo cools too slow or too fast. there is a reason why the GM engineers get paid the big bucks.

old post, I know, but I thought I should add that unless you're handbrake parallel parking at 90mph in 3rd and suddenly shutting down the engine, you have nothing to worry about. if you drive properly through a parking lot, well under 2300 rpm (boost), then the turbo is probably already cooling down.

Not a concern, just curious as to how it's done/what the guy in the video means regarding his statement about the engine's ability to cool the turbo after the engine is shut off. Different manufacturers have various methods. Fiat/Dodge use a dedicated electric pump for the Abarth and Dodge Dart. A good idea for long term reliability of the turbocharger, even if the car isn't being driven hard considering how fast a turbo spins, and how long it takes to finally to a stop after the engine is turned off.
