I don't see the benefit if it's not a direct fit. If you have to modify anything, then why not just get a rebuilt k04 and mount it to a cut/flanged stock manifold?

Because, if we are talking about the 1.4, if you just use an over the counter K04, you'll have modify all the associated plumbing. Downpipe, charge pipes, air intake.
With this set-up. You will just shove it back into your existing plumbing, with maybe just the slightest bit of adjustment.
Huge difference. Unless you have a TIG and fab skills. In which case you don't need any suggestions on how to put just about everything onto anything.
If we are talking about the 1.8, then yes, I agree. It doesn't save a whole bunch of time or money to go this route.

I said in a message today that I was designing a turbo exhaust manifold for the 1.8. I see that Garret has a pretty good turbo. If anyone is cad capable, I would like some help on this. I can see that CRracing has an intercooler upgrade for the 1.4. I will incorporate this. The intake manifold will take a little work since it is charged from the other side. Not so bad. We can do this with a little feedback. If not, I will share the designs with anyone cad capable. Two D prints will also be available. Lets do this with some enthusiasm. Take about a month. By the way, I work 6 days a week as an engineer. I drive a 2012 sonic for mileage. Way more fun than my other 5 cars because of the small engine. A challenge to make it a giant killer.
