Ultragauge and ScanGauge Thread

Yeah they mount in any gauge pod that fits standard gauges. They have a metal bracket on the back. Pic-

This is a question for the Scangauge guys who have a new enough firmware that they have the horsepower gauge AND who have had their Sonic on a dyno.

How accurate have you found the horsepower reading to be?

I recently tuned my Sonic and I'm not sure I believe the HP gauge reading, or perhaps the number it was showing is supposed to be flywheel HP rather than wheel HP.

Edit: Even if you haven't been to a dyno, what kind of HP numbers are you guys seeing on your Scangauge or Ultragauge?

Had my Ultragauge connected for 2 weeks or so, thought i'd had it set up correctly after following 31 pages of what others had did and...
... after 3 days not driving anywhere, the Ultragauge did some-what flatten the battery (not fully flat, had 9 volts in it - enough to power everything, just not enough to kick the car over and start) , it also disabled my car's Immobilizer.

So, I was going to give it one more try, before I eBay it.

What i'd like to know is for those of you who go say a week without driving your Sonic/Barina/Aveo... what are you settings that you use so it doesn't do any power draining?

I have a UltraGauge EM Plus if that matters.

I had the same problem.

I would do a factory reset on it, and do not change any of the settings when it powers on or off, and dont mess with the refrresh rate.

all that had worked for me.

It's in how you have it setup to turn off the device.

Mine is set to shut it off when the rpms reach zero I believe. I could be wrong it's been like 3 month since I set it up.

Maybe someone else will chime in.

Also the car has a protection system in place that is supposed to protect the battery from drain it's in the manual after the car has sat for 48 hours it's supposed to enter a battery saving mode.

I personally had my car off all last week while I was on vacation I have the ultra guage and my car was just fine 9 days later.

Has to be in how you set it up to shut off.

Krakenbeard if you have a better idea, or more detailed settings to use, ill be happy to try them Don't want to give up on the UG just yet, hopefully a reset will fix the problem.

yea, just dont change any of the power settings when you do your factory reset.

dont give up on it, its a good piece of hardware to just give up on it, lol

Okay so since there's now 31 pages of info for others who want to get it and new, here is what I found works best for the Ultragauge, summarized.

Initial Setup
Engine Size = 1.4 or 1.8
Fuel Capacity = 46.2 Litres/12.2 Gallons

Power options
Power On = Mode 2 (default)
Power Off = Mode 3 (if revs under 500rpm, UG turns off)

If you show torque, for some reason Torque 2 shows more accurate result.

Thats all I can think of, feel free to add to this post if you think there is more important information for the Ultragauge.

It's because of the way that torque1 and torque2 calculate the torque. If I am not mistaken, for torque1 you need to know your max torque output and then it calculates your current torque based on the percentage of the total torque you're using at that time. Torque2 calculates torque off of an estimation of engine efficiency.

Im not sure about the torque 2. When running tq 2 the numbers seem way to low to me but tq1 seems to be more believable.

If we could get someone that works at gm to get the engines thermal efficiency percentage and put that in would likely be most accurate but who knows.

When I dyno in October I'll be able to work with that and get it as close as it can be.

I'm showing boost, engine temp, intake temp, fuel trims, and volts on my ultra gauge. I'd like to be able to monitor my oil pressure too but I guess it doesn't show that.
