Vehicle Specific Subwoofer Enclosure

Not sure if this is appropriate to post here but several members here have contacted us by phone regarding the limited options for subwoofer enclosures they have and the OUTRAGEOUS costs for other subwoofer setups for the 2013/14 Chevy Sonic.

Requests were made for us to manufacture an 8" and 10" vehicle specific subwoofer enclosure for the 2013/14 model at a discounted rate for forum members. Although we currently manufacture several Chevy model vehicle specific subwoofer enclosures we have not molded the Sonic as of yet. In consideration of all the calls and emails received we are molding the vehicle!

Due to the overwhelming calls and requests we are casting this vehicle and are now taking 12 pre-orders to start for forum members ONLY. This is a 10" version and we will cast an 8" version if the demand is there.

I am using the Kicker 10" Bass Station, first on the LT then moved to the RS when I traded up. The difference the subwoofer makes to to the sound is beyond describable; one goes from so-so to excellent with one mod. If a Sonic specific subwoofer was available when I made the change I would have jumpted at it but when I put it in the LT there was none and when I changed to the RS moving the Kicker from one to the other seemed to me to be easier than hoping the now on the market system would work.

All this is to say the addition of a powered subwoofer makes the Sonic audio jump to life and whatever path one chooses to take, if good sound is your objective you will not be disappointed.

Id be interested to see a preliminary sketch of what it'll look like and an approx price. I cant have it take up the whole back end of my RS, but Im interested. Worst case Ill ditch the spare and build something under there.

Food for thought. Maybe we can make a dual placement option but that would eliminate building an 8" version to reduce SKU's. I doubt the 8" would be as popular anyway. Anyone have any input regarding placement options?

^^This. I'd buy an enclosure that drops in BELOW the false floor.

We are doing one in the passenger rear cavity for sure. The option mentioned sounds good and we will check it putt today since we are running acoustical testing on this vehicle today to identify the resonant frequency that it plays loudest. I believe pathlength would be increased in the drop in area you mentioned though so it seems to be something to consider.

I think that the rear passenger cavity is the best option to minimize the impact on cargo space and damage to the sub while hauling stuff. How much shallower is an 8in sub compared to a 10in sub? That would be the driving factor for me.

I would like some bass but would like the least amount of intrusion into the cargo space as possible. How possible would it be to integrate some sort of grill to keep the sub from getting damaged when there's a bunch of stuff in the back as well?

I'm not sixteen anymore so I don't like to be inconvenienced by a speaker. Also the reason why I can afford this... PM me when the product becomes available. The price listed on your website certainly seems reasonable. The only question remaining is where to hide the amplifier...

I like the idea of it being hidden in the small compartment on the left. If the 8" one is the one that fits, that's the one I would get. Least impact on my space in the hatch is the most important.

For anyone interested, we are looking for a volunteer so that we can take a cast of the passenger rear compartment cavity for a single 10" Chameleon sub enclosure. The individual we were working with wrecked and totaled his Sonic so we are in need of a new volunteer. The volunteer will get a free enclosure when the mold process is completed. The free enclosure will come primed ready for paint or carpeted (volunteer preference). If interested and you live within a couple of hours from Huntsville, AL message us here or contact 256 Motoring directly.
