Water collected inside spare tire well

Yesterday, while cleaning out my car and preparing to install a bumper bully, I decided to take a glance at the space in which my spare tire rests. I found quite a bit of water that was collected in there I don't recall water ever soaking through the flooring in my trunk and luckily I didn't see rust on the jack stand.
So, I'm trying to figure out how this happened. I can only think that maybe it was a factor of condensation over a long period of time.

Has anyone else had this happen before?

I've not.. that tub should be air tight, but a leak at the trunk can do things...how's the rubber sealing around the trunk....

might we worth a try (WITH A BUDDY NEARBY) to get in the trunk, close it and look for light leaks

It is very likely that weatherstripping around your trunk is leaking. Make sure that the weatherstripping is clean. When it's clean, it seals much better as opposed to grime, grit and leaves getting in the way.

Good thought. I could just lower the rear seats and climb in from inside the car.

I'll take a look. A lot of leaves collected near the weatherstripping during the Fall. I'll clean up any dirt residue and maybe apply some armor all to help preserve the rubber.

I would not use ArmorAll. Use rubber silicone rubber treatment to prolong the life of the rubber.
