What is this part?

I was doing my aftermarket intake install and came across this piece that had a tube going from it, into stock airbox. Some kind of secondary air pump/blower? It was sucking air in. It runs across the front of the motor. I unplugged it from the power source and just plugged it up with a rubber plug and put silicone over it. Can I just remove it entirely? I notice a lot of other 1.8 Sonic's don't have it...it has to be some type of emission crap I'm assuming. No codes showed up after unplugging it, and the car runs great with the new intake..

It's California spec emissions. 13+ sonics have it. That's about all I know

I see no reason to plug it. If it were me, I would just leave it intact and stick a little valve cover breather on the hose there for good measure.

I second your assumption and Subs statement.

Cali spec secondary air setup. I don't know the effects of defeating the system. Maybe a code will show up after a number of key cycles, shouldn't effect drivability.

It is possible that it could cause a limp mode of sorts due to an emissions system failure. I would put a breather filter on it and and let it function as it should, unless of course you have a way of programming it out.

If we keep it plugged in it's loud as ****. It doesn't pop up any codes or anything. I took it to my GM guy just now and he said you can rip it right out, it's a Secondary Air. Totally worthless. We even unplugged the main power source (not just the fan) and it still didn't pull codes. Gonna rip it out to clear up engine bay a bit more, tape and tuck left over wires.

I'd assume Trifecta and delete the code from the ECU if it does eventually give me one. I could rip the pump part out and just put a breather on the very end of it. Where would I buy a breather for the end?

a breather filter? any auto store or any website that sells air filters.

isnt that the diverter valve waste side???...it expends excessive boost when you let off the throttle.

Wrong engine. And secondary air is unrelated to forced induction, actually I don't think turbo cars could effectively use secondary air injection.
