I thought I noticed some wear on my hancooks at 16,600 miles. I better pay attention.
I got Goodyear assurance triple treads about a month ago. They work great for snow and rain, but are not the best on dry roads. They are a little squirmy in the corners. On concrete freeways with the grooves, they like to follow those grooves. :/
Do not try to see how long that damaged tire will last. That's a recipe for disaster - and if you are deemed at fault in an accident - could be held criminally negligent for driving a car with a known serious safety defect.
Also, at a bare minimum, buy a pair of tires, so you have a matched set on each axle.
Personally, I'd just replace all 4 myself and get some decent tires, but I'm pretty anal about having good quality tires on my vehicles.
Just feels like I'm wasting money throwing away tires a year or two in advance.
Found this. Thought others might find it useful.
