What do your mods matter? If it's as "simple" as Iceman's dealer told him it is it sounds like they pull your wheel, swap in a harness and controlls, button it up and flash the BCM. If you're worried about the tune have Vince send you a stock tune with ECP to keep your BOV happy or swap the stocker back in. I might pull my BPV and paint it flat black to hide it a little better than a bright billet aluminum BPV sitting in there since I will have them poking around the front suspension when I get back.

One day! Tune, second cat delete, cat back and the DDM intake (when released) should be on the top of your list!lol Plus some 17's would make your car look a lot better as well....

I have a long list of mods on my car. And by a long list, I mean I printed them out and handed them to my service dept. We have an arrangement, they will find the problem and tell me about it, and I'll decide if it's something covered by warranty or if it's something I've done. They don't care if they have to charge me or if they charge GM, they get the same money either way.
Just tested that out yesterday, I've been popping a p0300 since switching back to gasoline, had them check it out. Turns out it looks like injector 3 may be faulty, so I paid for the diagnosis, the injectors are mine. But if it was the spark plugs, that would have been them.
YMMV, every service dept is different... but you might shop around if there's more than one Chevy dealer in your area, see if you can find one who has the right attitude towards mods.

Gentlemen... I hang my head in shame for the tardiness of my reply. It has been a long week and the end results were disappointing to say the least. Definitely a bad news vs. do -you-feel-like-gambling/slim chances for good news scenario. Here goes...
Received a call back last Tuesday from the salesman, not the service manager, who initially stated VERY flatly that on 2012 models a factory retrofit at a dealership was impossible to do. My options were to either live with it as it was optioned or I could have him cancel the sale and wash my hand of the entire affair. I told him I would discuss it with my wife but the chances of keeping it sans cruise control were very slight.
The next day late in the morning the service manager called with pretty much the similar story but with a small carrot extended. He has done the very same refit to over a dozen Cruze models and dug deeper past the initial roadblocks the CPU was putting up. He called GM and spent 40 minutes or so with first one and then 3 engineers on the whys and why nots. Here is the upshot, at least from his research.
The Sonic with a "cruiseless" steering wheel will indeed accept only the OEM's necessary (buttons, harness, et. al) for a swap out on that existing wheel, an entire wheel switch is not needed. One other item however would be required to be exchanged completely... anyone wish to take a guess?....
The CPU in it's entirety. And all systems utilizing it could require reprogramming as well, he would not know until it was attempted. He mentioned the folks he was speaking to seemed very interested in him attempting it, but it would fall 100% on the owner or dealership to work out the cost on the attempt. They did confirm to him that a software patch for the stock CPU to allow this is being actively investigated for the future but he could get no answer as to if it was being developed or anything on a date for such a patch being even beta tested.
So if I was willing to take a risk on it he was willing to attempt it. They would not however cover any labor for possible additional reprogramming, etc... and my parts cost rose just a tad to approximately $1800 minimum, with little guarantee of success.
I am sorry to report I was unwilling to roll those dice after mulling it over until this Friday past. The salesman meanwhile spent a great deal of effort trying to locate another '12 with the cruise/connectivity package that had similar miles on it, but came up empty.
So the search goes on. Looked at Honda's yesterday late in the day and did testdrive a few Mazda's today, including a Speed3 that my wife in no uncertain terms ix-nayed without a single spoken word.
My apologies for bearing this bad news to you all. Hopefully this software patch will become a reality in the days ahead.

I doubt that it will. This post contains more detail that only confirms what we have already learned. My question is, and will always be, why? When something like cruise control or a turbo charged engine is available from the factory, why go base then hope to upgrade? I do not understand and if there is an explanation I would like to see it.
I am not questioning modding. I do enough modding myself. I am questioning buying a product then complaining when upgrading to what the factory offers is difficult or costly.

I can see your point LS and I do agree with you in substance. If my posts in this thread have come across as complaining I really had no intention of doing so. Not asking the necessary questions on the test drive was a failure on my part, no doubt about that.
The fact however that the salesman did not disclose FULLY any and all of the previous service and complaints when it was the initial owner's vehicle was in no way my fault.
Let me be clear... my wife and I were both very impressed with that vehicle, especially the interior layout and spacious amount if room given it's class size. I am 6'5" and 240+ pounds to give you a point of reference so headroom is in particular a very big branch of the decision tree, just sitting in a vehicle will tell me if a test drive is worth my time and the salesman in about 10 seconds.
I applaud the salesman and the service manager for going quite above and beyond in an attempt to salvage the situation. In fact I recommended that particular salesman to 2 co-workers last Friday after the fact anyway and they both intended on paying the dealership a visit yesterday specifically to utilize that gentleman's fine work ethic.
I am in no way soured over the experience, I will be stopping back there tomorrow to collect a check refunding my deposit (8k+) and the salesman was very apologetic that the check could not be cut immediately, even going so far as to offer the vehicle for our use over the weekend.
A potential deal that might have generated bad word of mouth was dealt with professionally and courteously and will now generate praise from me if it should come up in conversation. Not too shabby at all as a result of a deal spun sideways if you ask me.

A little more info? All they (I'm assuming your dealer) did was swap a steering wheel w/ cruise control buttons and then they flashed/programmed the BCM for cruise control?

Ya i ordered a steering wheel with cruise Part #95142787 from Elm Chevrolet in NY they shipped it to me for 265.00 i installed it and drove to there service shop and they hooked it to there tech II or what ever they call them now and flashed the bcm with a cruise and fog lights. My Sonic is a 8/12 LS sedan the reason i didn't just buy on with cruise was that i needed the car like yesterday and had to stay in th 16,000 range and this was what they had. It does have a few other options like mylink i don't know if that makes a difference

It's a 13 year model, that might have something to do with it. It might be worth the effort to give it a shot on a 12 year model. I might have to give Elm Chevrolet a call and see what they can tell me about it on a 2012. I'd love to see a pic with the manual windows and the white cruise light "on" in the dash!
