I know some members have made cold air intakes by running piping from a hole on the fog light bezel up to the stock intake cutout. I'm wondering if anyone has done this while using the stock airbox.
I'm not going to do an aftermarket intake for another 20k miles or so. I will be using the stock system with a K&N panel filter.
I've seen people use accordion-style tubing to fabricate these cold air tubes, my plan is to attempt a polished aluminum tube setup with silicon elbows. I know "sx sonic" used a drill to clear out sections of the fog light bezel, the result looked very clean. I plan on doing this and putting a black mesh screen behind to catch any smaller debris. I'd love to find a way to make it easy to replace or re-paint a damaged or worn mesh screen element (without removing the front fascia again) but I haven't come up with a viable design to accomplish that while keeping things subtle and clean.
Much more design work and thinking will be done before I buy the parts and try to fabricate something, I'm just looking for thoughts on the benefits, or lack thereof, of doing this with a stock airbox and no tune. Also any tips, lessons learned, or do-it-better ideas from those who have already done this would be appreciated.
