I just bought a new 2012 Chevy Sonic LT Sedan and there was another Sonic that had the Remote Start but it was 3k more than the one i was getting so i ended up getting the Sonic without the Remote Start.. Was wondering if i take it to my Local Chevy Dealer in Bowling Green, KY can they add that feature to my car or am i out of luck? just asking because its getting down to 23F outside now in the mornings and it sucks.

If you have an auto, they should be able to, but if it's a manual, they won't touch it.

You can check into it and may get extremely lucky, or the aftermarket may provide a solution.
AFAIK, the remote start is directly related to the OnStar *shudder* unit and you have a different one I'm pretty sure.

I am an installer at Best Buy. You can 100% put a remote start in a sonic. Ive done it before. You need an immobilizer like the Flash Logic Fl-can. We use the viper systems. I think out the door it was around 650 installed. That wa for the best unit we sell.

If this is the case, I would just go aftermarket.
I'm probably wrong, but I thought you could have your car flashed to work with remote start...between the flash, the cost of the remote(s) and whatever else would be needed, then it is probably cheaper or the same to go aftermarket.

That's not a bad deal. A lot of times, remote start is bundled with other features, and the dealer won't consider getting you a car from somewhere else. They'll either try to sell you the remote start and all the other stuff you don't want or just pitch you the other car without it.

I guarantee that guys wanting cruise control will be completely jacked if the guys wanting remote start just toss a dealer $215 and factory remote start is done.

Let me know if that remote start works out for you. I work for a company that sells GM accessories and to our knowledge you cannot get a GM start put in as an accessory. We sell aftermarket ones for the sonic. No need to spend 650 though, (No offense sonic007). Realistically you only need a reliable basic one button start that has unlock feature. One button start because obviously lock and unlock are built into your key, no need to carry around an additional larger key fob, one buttons are small. Also while your car is running your factory key fob will not work so make sure your one button start has unlock feature to unlock your car. We use Avital starts for their affordability and we have yet to have an issue with them. The 4113 will start your car and unlock it with one button.

No offense taken lol i dont make the prices. Our is aftermarket that includes keyless, security and remote start. Has a 2 way lcd remote and all. A bit much if all you want is remote start.
Had it installed at my Local Chevrolet Dealership and it works! They got the part in from GM and gave me the 2 keys. when they remote started it a few times with both new keys that i got and he said the only down side of it is that i cant remote start the car with the OnStar app since the car did not come with remote start out of the factory. Im fine with not having that feature just wanted remote start when its getting cold now in the mornings.

I expected your story to go more like this:
"Just got back from the dealer. Turns out the $215 was just for the parts, and it took them 6 hours to figure it out, costing me an additional $X. I should have just got the model with remote start."

Please consult the dealership before having this feature installed as it could impact the warranty. The dealership should be able to quote you a price as well for a GM system. OnStar doesn't need to be able to start my vehicle,... wonder if it means they can't cut it either.
I most assuredly want details on this - you know, for guys in the community who don't have remote start but want it...

OnStar can cut power to your Vehicle as it sits right now. I'm sure they still can after his update for remote start, Cutting the juice is different than turning it on.
The part number for the Sedan is 95990000 and Hatchback 95990001. When i Talked to GM they said this is a new add on to the car that Chevy Dealers can now add to your Sonic and when i asked about Cruse Control she told me to hold on as she looked it up then said that she can not provide me with an answer and in the neer future there will be an answer if GM will allow Cruse Control on the 2012 Models or not, Then told me that Remote Start was not a feature you could add once out of Factory but now can be added so who knows. I'm not big on knowing much about cars but i sure do hope they do allow Cruse Control like they did Remote Start because ill be driving to California from Kentucky next year lol.
