The worst part of the winter's mornings is to wait until you can touch your steering wheel and your stick. Since this is that time of the year again (and it's already sub-zero some nights up here in NH) I could not imagine going through that again and went to remote start installation.
I've found one on amazon it's only $170 + $6 shipping. Basically it's Fortin EVO-ALL Data Bypass Interface Module and Fortress Crimestopper LCPRO-4. Guys already have it configured/programmed for Sonic/manual model. I have to do only installation. All the connectors were included.
There are four connections to be made. Two on steering wheel (very easy), one to diagnostic port and one to pass clutch. There are videos (part one, part two) on how to do this on cruze. The steps for sonic are the same.
The only difference that video does not have is the clutch installation part. And that's where the hardest parts is. To pass the clutch it's required to connect to second (yellow) pin on clutch pedal position sensor. It's located on top of clutch pedal and it's really hard to reach it. Specially if you have long (like I do) or thick fingers. I spent about 3 hours on that.
Once you have everything connected it's couple steps to program the key immobilizer and clutch overpass.
If someone concerned about safety in a matter of remotely starting car in a gear there is a strict car exit procedure you need to follow that prevents this and engages remote start option, otherwise the remote start option remains disabled:
0. all doors closed
1. release clutch
2. release break/3. engage hand brake
4. take off the key (the car will keep running)
5. exit the car
6. close the car with remote
7. hit again close car button, it will shut down the engine
Small security note: in case if someone wants to steal you remote started car they'll be disappointed: unless you put your key in and turn Ignition ON the car will shut itself down the same moment you press clutch/brake pedal.
There are some more functionality available through Crimestopper LCPRO-4 (like configure the RPM if you want increase your idle revs in winter). Not get it to details yet.
