running water sound from from passenger floor area

in the mornings when i leave for work i take off and hear a water moving around . i assumed that it was from morning dew or moisture from the night and the water was just draining from the seams in the body. i figured i would only hear the noise once until i leave for work again the next day, but i swore i heard it a couple more times this morning as well as last night on the way home . im trying to find out where the sound is coming from but every time i have someone to listen, the sound is gone. we havent had and any rain for almost a week and i havent washed the car in 2 weeks . does anyone know if there is a drain plug somewhere in that area i have missed ? does anyone hear the same noises i hear or am i just going crazy lol. any input would be greatly appreciated .

do a hard search around your waterpump area too... prone to pinpoint leaks. Look around the bottom of the belts for any sign of small green droplets... that's the 1st area to look

the car has 10,000 km on it, i hope its not those things

no wet spots anywhere in the engine bay . still very clean from when i brought the car home . started engine idled for a while heard the fan come on , water pump clean no dirt or wet spots . i dont think this is mechanical related . it sounds more like rain water is getting trapped somewhere like the passenger door or side skirt . i looked under the door saw open drain holes and no drain plug anywhere . i dont think i side skirt would hold water like that , or would they? also coolant levels are perfect

You're hearing some air and coolant flowing through the heater core. As long as your coolant level is good it'll go away on it's own due to the self purging design of our cooling systems.

I heard it in my car for a little bit when it was newer, it's kinda weird hearing what sounds like a stream or brook in your car. A clue that you are hearing coolant is if the noise speeds up if you bring the RPMs up a little.

just make sure to check it on a level surface with engine cold. if it's at or very slightly above max...you're fine

yes i always check coolant level while engine is cold and im on level ground . the coolant is just above the line.

I do think it's just the flow of bubbles in the system... your drainage by the windshield shunts down to the outer edges of the windshield, and the doors have small slit openings in the bottom for water to drain out..

Odd sound though I admit!

I had this exact same noise and issue. Dealer could not find where the coolant leak was cause it was not leaking on the floor but the odour was there. When the car is cold, rub or feel around the heater hoses that connect into the fire wall from the engine bay, there are 2 hoses. Mine was leaking there but did not hit the ground cause there is like an insulation or something on the fire wall that was soaking it up and not reaching the ground and this is what was causing that coolant noise in the dash area you hear. Basically, the hose connects to a plastic connector to the fire wall that has a rubber O-ring. That was worn out or deteriorated and started to leak out small amount of coolant. The part cost me $12 for the lower one but since I was in there, I replaced both connectors, the upper and lower one to be safe.

Give it a try and look there, I would suggest everyone to do the same and look in that area.

I just hear some type of liquid filling up a hose or pipe noise when first starting. Once It's been driven 10ft, it no longer makes that noise until it cools down again.

you will always here that noise when it's cold or the coolant has dropped in temperature than you will hear it again, once it builds up pressure the noise will go away. There is a leak somewhere in your system, that's how I figured out the problem with mine and my other car.

Have you tried opening up the radiator cap and start the car cold and let out all the air in the system? Could be just that simple, hopefully. But I would try to touch and feel all the coolant hose connections where there are clamps and see if you have a very little minor leak.

Um when I made that post it wasn't directed to you with 28,000 miles. But yeah, as others have since posted, that could still be the case. Has your coolant level been fluctuating at all?

My apologies for hijacking your thread. I should've elaborated. My water pump has been replaced, the system purged, refilled, and still gurgles. I haven't checked the coolant level lately. Thanks for the reminder. [emoji6]

I have a leak. Possibly in the same spot thru the firewall. It's making a nasty puddle stains on my passenger side carpet.

Hey Llia, are you sure it's coolant and not just water? Just asking because a water leak around the fresh air inlet was a common complaint for a while which caused wet passenger floors, and another member was missing his A/C evaporator drain tube which caused his passenger floor to get wet.
