Metallic red over the chrome is perfect! I'd like to do mine metallic blue, as my car is blue. Thanks for the pics and info.I took the Rings off and then I use duplicolor. I cleaned the rings in paint thinner. Then i sprayed with metal red

Thank you for these instructions. Very thoughtful of you.For those who would like to remove their front bumper for anything like fogs, headlights, grille. I received these instructions for the grille I ordered. I thought others might find use for these.

Thanks for this. I'm thinking more and more about masking everything off and painting.Hello everyone, as I promised, here is the deal with the famous chrome rings. We picked up our Sonic today from the dealer and got the "essential package" which replaces the chrome rings with red ones. We got all our original spare parts back in a box in the boot along with all the instruco's, and for my surprise, the rings aren't just "rings", but more like the whole black fascia of the headlamp, so they dont just "pop off" but you rather have to dismount the front bumper to have access to the headlamp assembly and then dismount the black fascia surrounding the lamps and replace the whole lot with the new red ones. Certainly a bit more work than masking and plasti dipping. Here are some pics.
They do have clips around the ring but as you all know they also have a screw at the bottom, which can't be accessed unless you dismount the whole thing, otherwise if you try to pop them off you will inevitably break them, so DO NOT pop them off unless you can't be bothered doing all this and you don't mind gluing them back. I'm guessing it's the same for the tail lights as someone said before, although a tad simpler as you don't have to dismount the rear bumper. Hope these pics make sense and make it easier for those who want to plasti dip them.
That is the blue I need to match my car. Looks really nice on black though. So I bought a can of metal-cast today. This is paint that is meant to go over chrome, to give the part an anodized look. Only a night pic for now
This is 3 coats of metal cast followed by 2 coats of clear.
You can break the rings off very easy, and glue them back on. Or you can do it right and remove the whole assembly. Here's what the piece looks like disassembledOk wait... how can they change the rimg color so easily? I just bought a 2015 LT.... Are you telling me there is an easier way to rings off now? I thought you had to open up the whole headlight assembly?... someone please quote and reply gimme the 411

it's not the size, it's how you drive it....
That's exactly how I made the discovery.
Maybe, but I thought you'd know me by now. "Arts and Crafts" are fine on a bucket hooptie, but I'm trying to do something a little more mature for my build.
