I also like how he's doing it with the hood up! That big flap on the front of the car really cuts through the wind!

On a more serious note: you guys should come up here, to Ontario, to try out top speed runs! Beware of cops though. Get caught doing 50 kmph over the limit, and this happens:


1. Over 50 km you get 6 demerit points and you are fined with $9.75 per Km over the speed limit.
2. Your driving license might be suspended for 30 days.
3. On the other hand, over 50 kmph speed is also considered as stunt driving. If so then you get a license suspension of 1 year.
4. A fine of $2000.
5. 6 demerit points.
6. Immediate 7 days license suspension and vehicle impound
7. Imprisonment up to 6 months and skyrocket insurance rates.
8. The conviction will stay for 3 years on your driving record.
9. The charges are sometimes doubled when you cross the limit in a community area or a construction zone with people around.
10. Your insurance rates increase rapidly and go up to thousands of dollars.

Country roads are usually 80kmph (50mph) and highways are 100 kmph (60mph)

Wow, this was and very funny and interesting thread to read.
Just wanted to throw this out there. I Just posted a video of my 100% stock RS going 131 mph. It is definitely governed at that speed.

This should ease a lot of theories out there. This thread was too funny. opcorn:

PS, I did replace the tires with some Pirelli all season radials, no idea what they are rated at.

Drag limited or computer governed? I have found computer governed to work like cruise control, where you get to the governed speed and can go no faster no matter the conditions.

I ask because Chevy maintains the Sonic speed is drag limited not computer governed.

I guess I don't really understand how or what drag limited is. But as in the video, both times I hit 131, I felt a sudden drop in power. I could not go any faster. I still had descent acceleration until that point.

Drag limited is the point where you cannot go faster because your car only has enough power to overcome the wind resistance for the speed you are stuck at.

Yeah, that was not the case. I could definitely feel a drop in power. kinda freaked me out just a little. Then when I got it back to that speed, the power dropped again. (as seen when I hit the speed, if you listen carefully, you can hear me say the power just dropped). I was not letting off the gas.

To me it felt like I could have gone a little faster if it wasn't for the power drop.
