I agree that it is a hefty premium for an economy car. I'm sure that many would find the price worth it, but I think it makes more sense on a more expensive model. Of course, the up-charge hasn't kept a large number of Sonic owners from opting for the other premium paint offerings. That is simply my frugal-minded opinion.
Ok, I am confused... a few months ago White Diamond Tricoat was an option when you went to build the car on the Chevy website. They showed it as an option for two months or so, then it was gone from the color palet selection.
Fast forward three- four months....I just ordered a Black Granite LTZ sedan from the factory on Saturday. I was browsing on the chevy site and saw White Diamond Tricoat under "Model Overview, not under the build section. This prompted me to chat with chevy online. They informed me that it is available. I explained that it is not an option when you go to build the car on the site. They confirmed that they saw the same thing I was seeing. Although they were pretty certain it is available, they suggested that I contact the dealer so they can confirm with the GM Rep. Here is the thing, I just found out that the Black Granite car I ordered will go into production the week of 5/13. Knowing that, I should be able to change the color to White Diamond. This is crazy, if I knew that the White Diamond was available, I would have ordered that. Even the dealer did not have that color palet displayed in their big marketing book that is on the showroom floor. Either way, they are both really nice colors. I saw the White Diamond on the Malibu and it looked fantastic! I bet it looks awesome on a Sonic as well.

Update...Even though it was too late for the dealer to change the color, or cancel the order for that matter, the dealer was kind enough to order me another car in White Diamond Tricoat. I am really excited and can't wait for the arrival of my new LTZ!! Hopefully I will be able to take delivery by the end of June.

Ah the vagaries of doing a retail order. You can change your order up to status 2500 and with the dealer agreeing up to status 3000. I have seen posts where changes have been accepted even at status 3100. You are probably at 3000 or 3100, only your dealer or BeckyD can know for sure. But your dealer did come through for you and that is the important point.
Congrat on getting what you want and welcome to the roller coaster ride you take when you do a retail sale order. Which is what you are doing.

Well a comment here was about custom colors was applied in a different way at the factory. I dont have any idea whether that is absolute truth or idle conversation. I would like to know that for a guaranteed fact. If these special colors go thru the same robot arms as the other colors (at the assembly plant). Then charging extra for them should be criminal and the whole organization should be ran out of town tied to a passenger jet. I mean we all know the paint itself does not cost that much more.
Now then, if these special colors are applied by a man with a spray gun, then rubbed by hand. If this is the case, then $645 is not that bad at all.
OH YEAH --- I almost forgot. Congrats on the new Sonic. Yes White Diamond is an awesome color. I bet it will look sweeeet.

The extra cost colors take one additional pass.

Soooo much misinformation in this thread!! First off not all "premium colors are three stage paints and therefore do not require the "additional pass (should say passes)" such as inferno orange...I still have no idea why it costs more than red but that's another story. Second of all yes some Pearle paint jobs from the factory have the pearl mixed into the final clear coat. This is common on reds lik red crystal tint coat for example. Butthat is not always the case as some times they still put a clear coat over the pearl coat as we do in collision repair.lastly no gm does not offer pearl white on a sonic and if u say u are getting one...I say b.s. I'll believe it when I see it. Why on earth even on an ltz turbo would you want a paint job that will cost so much to repair on a car that won't hold its salvage value is beyond me. Aka ur car will total faster in an accident and if u don't have gap ur screwed usually. Your insurance will be higher as well for any pearls reds yellows and oranges.
