The 1.4L turbo heatshield for the Sonic is made from 304 Stainless steel, just like the heatshield for our intake. Although stainless steel costs a little more then regular steel, it does not radiate the heat like regular steel and therefore makes a much better heat shield material. This heatshield fits over the stock heatshield and gives and air gap between them, keeping temps lower through the rest of the engine bay.
We started with a CAD model of the engine to make sure we had as close as fitment as possible to the cylinder head:
The result was a 2 piece design with a bracket that gets mounted to the cylinder head, which gives a surface for the heat shield to mount to and also keep it close to the valve cover on the engine.
The result is a great looking and functional heat shield for the engine.
We are expecting the production units to be back at the end of February and they will ship as soon as they show up. We are accepting pre-orders for them for only $99 plus shipping, regular price will be $120. That will include both pieces of the heat shield in 304 stainless steel, mounting hardware and instructions.
We will also be offering powdercoat options for the heat shields with Black, Red, White and yellow being standard colors and custom colors available also.
