I've read about them while researching revolvers. The consensus appears to rank it as an excellent revolver. They're very sharp looking to boot.

My SD is very, very, very picky about ammo. A handful of loads will shoot 4" at 25 yds with a couple stringers. Many other loads are lucky to hit 6" at 10 yards with alot of rounds missing paper, wtf!

Definitely need something better and I'm thinking either an older 1911 in .45 or 9mm or a revolver in .357.

Mainly as a night stand gun and weekend shooter. I'm entertaining the notion of it for CC but that will have to be decided with handling, I've no false notions that it's ideal or even doable with certain clothing.

I've shot a couple 1911'. An older pre grip safety in 9mm and a newer .45 and the accuracy and kick of either were much better than my SD40.

I also like either having a trigger safety (like many rifles/shotguns) or more preferably something with a hammer or way of de****ing the firing mechanism.
If I have a round chambered I don't like the thought of only having a hard trigger pull as a safety which is essentially what I have now.

Sounds like you have your ducks in a row. I'm a big 1911 fan but there are much better options for carry.

Most of the guns in the Sporting good stores and gun shops are the stainless.

Do you have any suggestions to look into for a CC gun? I've been browsing thru various forums which is helpful but there are so many "well I have this gun and it's the best, but it's the only one I've fired.", really clouds up the threads.

I prefer the new ultra compacts with single stack mags that come in at 1" total width. Sig's P938, P290 and Springfield's XDs which they just released in 9mm but I prefer the 45ACP. I'll give up a round for twice the stopping power per trigger pull. I won't even mess with a 380 for personal defense. I'll be honest though, if you have a shop that will rent them for range time or have friends with he gun you're looking at I would shoot them first then make your pic. Glocks are great guns but my natural POA doesn't work with it, I prefer the American feel of the 1911 that Springfield XD's have.

The .45 was my first and i intended to carry it. I never have though.

During cooler weather I will probably carry the Glock 29 or 32.


Here is the G29. Actually a lot of fun to shoot. Just very expensive.

Not the HD with the stainless frame. Most have just the stainless slide. I don't know where these three HDs came from on gun broker, they weren't there a week ago. I had to search for hours before finding one in Colorado.

As for an EDC, a .380 with the right round is great. By right round I mean Hornady Critical Defense.

I'll still take a 9mm in the same defense round and same size of gun any day over a 9mm short..... Matter of fact I'd rather have a 40 or 45 over a 9mm in the same defense round. To argue a lesser round in a self defense situation is a gamble I'm not willing to place my family or myself in. The "380 with the right round is great" mentality was back when they where the smallest guns you could get, now real calibers are fitting in the same package.

I bought an XDs thinking a .45 in a tiny carry package would be great, but even with my decent abilities it was just too damn much round for the size of the gun. Bigger calibers in smaller packages mean more recoil and less accuracy. I'll take an accurate .380 over a handfull .45 any day.

Good enough for defense at 10 yards considering most experiences will be within arms reach.....

Of course, a well placed 22 is fatal.... But, it comes down to damage and penetration.

I also must not be a real man because I disliked the XDs and found it too much of a handfull when it would actually fire and not FTF due to a light primer hit.

From what I've gathered I feel comfortable with any bullet/caliper and gun combo that can penetrate ~18" of tissue, is accurate, has a manageable recoil, is semi-auto, and reliable.

I'm losing fondness of .40 cal because of it's recoil, It's not unmanageable but I can get the sights on target much quicker with 9mm or .45.
