Yea in my 1.8 mine was cracked too.. And no idea what it was and took it to a dealer and they said that the rubber hose was cracked. They said it must of ripped when I put the K&N filter in so they wouldn't warranty it. So I ordered the hose and installed it myself and it was so hard installing it bc of it's location behind the engine.

I'm really disappointed after reading these posts that my 2012 had the same issue, took it in for an oil change and I change my own air filters... Have told dealer this, they over flexed and it cracked the hose...can't prove they did it... But awfully suspicious right where it was cracked underneath. The quality of this hose for the $69 it was to replace it with certified gm parts is very disappointing, had it on the car 2 weeks and it already looks flimsy.
Not to mention the squeaks in the Rear drums which started two weeks after I bought the car. Dealer said official fix was to lubricate them... Noise came back.

Just had this same problem happen on a 2012 sonic w/ 37K miles that I had for 2 days from a dealership.. Threw me a P0171 code on the highway. Turns out there was a 2 inch crack on the hose. They didn't have the part in at the time so they threw some duct tape on and told me to come back in a couple days to replace it.
The power train warranty will cover the engine, if there is an internal problem while driving your car on a two lane road following a green 73 Gremlin driven by an 18 year old male with brown hair and blue eyes. On a Sunday of a leap year during a snow storm in July in south Folrida returning from the store where you bought a bag of chips and a bottle of soda.
Just to follow up...The dealership I bought the car from replaced the piping with the same stock piece. I was in the shop for only about 15-20mins so it seems like it was an easy enough fix. I live in upstate NY so the weather gets pretty cold up here so I'm wondering if that contributed to the piping cracking so quickly(37,000 miles). Not sure if it's in my head or not because I only drove it for a few mins after picking it up, but it seems to be shifting smoother now.

Done. It was replaced with no real fuss and it didn't take very long. Of course it was covered by the waranty so that makes sense. Happy to have it solved!

What would be nice is if GM just changed this piece to a higher quality material as well as the plastic thermostat housing right there on the assembly line. Being the first GM I ever sat in with the thought of purchasing and the first American car I have looked at in over 10years, I'd like to think (we) are trying to build cars more and more like the japanese. I really like this car and have been checking it out...but have some reservations.
Is this the "hose, tube, piping, that connects to the front of the air intake cover upper portion? Mine hasn't deteriorated yet, but that connector piece is not holding anymore. I originally thought it had some type of clamp that broke and fell off. But looking at photos I am not seeing anything that looks like a clamp. I have it held on with a TIE - TIE for now. Does anyone know if it does have some type of clamp? I was thinking of using a hose clamp with some rubber underneath to hold it in place.
