Cold Air Intake with stock airbox

Snow and Ice is definately something to worry about, I plan on making a cover for the inlet I can clip on when it really starts snowing.

It poured on my way into work today, There was a little condensation in the airbox, and the bottom of the filter was damp. (this is after a 30 min freeway drive into work)

The top side and the upper part of the airbox was dry though.

If it does become an issue I can always go back to the injen and just use the vent as a cool air inlet for the engine bay.

Hi guys,
This is what I did on mine.

I took out the whole admission plus the rubber joint from the airbox thru the mudguard linen. leftit clean.

I then adapted a leftover part I had from a Veccy C intake adaptor to the airbox. Its a 3" diameter pipe vs a 1.5" stock. Its almost direct so I eliminated about 70cm of pipe (thats circa 27")

Here is a comparision 3" vs 1.5"

This is what it would look like

and finally in place (sorry for the dark closeup). The mouth is high and just behind the headlights.

The car is really fun to drive now.

I like this idea but I think it would be too risky because we get a lot of heavy rain in FL with deep puddles or minor floods sometimes.

I haven't torn mine apart to look but it seems like it stops in the front fender above the wheel behind the plastic protector in the wheel well. Where in Florida are you at? I'm in Sarasota, south of Tampa.

Anyone notice that bag on top of the Lid on the stock air box?

Yes, some have mentioned something about it being a charcoal type filter. I have a feeling it has something to do with silencing the stock BPV though.

Idk but I ripped that bag out of the airbox and removed the long snaking horn and my car seems to have more topend power and the turbo is very audible now. Enjoying it while I can before the ECU dumbs the engine back down. I need to get my tune ordered soon!!

I can't take the pic right now because I'm at work but if you pull the lid of the SAB as if you're changing the filter you will see it. It's a white "bag" made out of some type of fabric like material filled with something granular and dark. If you shake it it sounds like one of those rain sticks kinda.

It should give you some woosh and wine. Most have chopped up the bottom of the box ot cut the maf portion off the SAB and stuck a cone style filter on the end to achieve the best sound.

It dose make a difference that's for sure. I really want to leave the stock box alone but I'm gettin fed up with not hearing any till I can buy an intake. But I did do the danny5 mod. And you can now if u listen with an open mind kind of hear it a bit. But dose make the Sab more throaty.

I have the spectre kit connected to my airbox with a K&N drop in filter and it gave it some sound. If you look at how the SAB sits, it has a small opening that's sealed to the snake pipe that goes into the wheel well. I removed the snake pipe completely so now it's now sealed and can draw in air straight to the SAB instead of sucking through a straw. It gave me a lot more sound and a noticeable difference in top end. Well until the computer corrects it. The turbo is a lot louder now though and this his how it will remain til I get a tune and intake
