Is my trans going out and is my poor sonic totaled?

Yup I agree, these are transmissions made by quality OEM manufacturers, but they are built on Chevy spec and at a cost. It’s very evident too. I’ve got a getrag built m26 5 speed, and was completely astounded when i ripped into it to replace the differential. Plastic everywhere...

    Transmission Fluid Spec's

You need a GL-4 fluid and 2 quarts of it. You will only need 1.8 quarts to fill it though. I just did a complete differential and reseal job on mine and it worked out according to spec. Just want to fill until the fluid starts dripping out of the fill hole (with the car sitting level)

    M32 Output shaft bearing failure

Well I do have to say North American parts availability is generally non existent. Just completed an M26 diffy job. Ended up having to replace the diff with a new one, and of course bearings and seals to boot. Ended up finding all the parts on rock auto, as they were the only ones that seemed...

Hill Hold Assist - Is Yours Working?

Well most of the time it holds, sometimes I do roll back a little bit on steeper inclines. Really scares the driver that’s behind me who pulled up a few inches away from my rear bumper. If only they knew. Lol

Need to identify this bolt this is on 1.8 manual transmission

Is that the one with a black rubber bit on the top? If so I think it may not be a bolt rather a breather.

what did you do to your Sonic today?

Replaced the differential in the transaxle while the transmission is still in the vehicle. Differential carrier bearings died, and the gears were badly worn, had about 30 degrees of rotation of the wheel before the small gears contacted the next tooth, and a lot of end play on the passenger...

Changing oil in 5 speed manual transmission

Has anyone done this using Redline MT-LV, which is gl-4 rated as well?

    What size axle nut??

Hmm strange, I have a 1/2” 36 mm impact socket that i use on mine, it just makes it into the ID of the bore on the hub. Tight slip fit. Might be that your impact socket is wider on the OD, or could be corrosion buildup on the ID of the bore that youre trying to get the socket into. Also...

    Aftermarket rims

You know, I love em, switched to my snow tires in October, so got 1/2 of spring, summer and fall out of em. Driven under all conditions except snow. Exceptional in the wet, hot dry roads during summer you really get the nice sticky feeling from em, turns the car into a real handler in...

    Creaking noise

Did you check the guide pins holding the caliper to the bracket. Without a good cleaning and greasing with a silicone lubricant, they will bind possibly creating a click (if not seized) as it unbinds. Those pins tend to be overlooked in a lot of cases.

carbon ceramic drilled and slotted rotors?

Stock factory pads on the sonic were actually ceramic compound pads.

Front sway bushing bolts - I’m special

Just curious which energy suspension part numbers you installed, greasable or non?

2015 ltz binding/creaking unload sharp turn

Creaking could also be caused by sway bar bushings that attach the sway bar to the subframe. Had the same, checked the chintzy plastic sway bar end links and they were fine. When the swaybar was detached, i reinstalled the wheels and took er out for a quick boot round the block, noise...

    (Anti) swaybar bushings

Hey everyone, So the other day, my swaybar bushings started squealing like a pig in heat. Managed to get in there with a lithium spray lube and get some grease in the bushings, but I know that’s only going to be a temporary measure, to keep it quiet. In the meantime, looking for...

    Thermostat may be stuck closed.

There’s a clip on that pipe that pulls off. At first I was under the impression that you squeeze and pull, but then it came to me that I was going at it all wrong. Just about broke the clip myself. Just don’t lose the clip, which is real easy to do. I did and it was a fun search.
