How much HP would I have to put out of a...say. 06 5.9l Cummins for it to feel like a 500hp sports car???

This is typical of someone that says "I want 500WHP how do I do it".
To GET 500hp you're looking at a 2-4k.
To feel like a 500hp car you're looking at needing 800+ which is going to cost more than its worth cause in the end it's still a 5.9 Cummins :sadbanana:

In order to push more than 8psi from a turbo kit on a 2013.camaro I'd have to reduce compression wouldn't I?

I was leaning more towards a new car and starting from a clean dependable slate. I was thinking max 40k on car and max 10k in parts(depending on how much HP I will gain from the parts)

Doubtful, there's plenty of boosted LS engines out there with stock compression. Fuel choice makes a difference. You can get away with murder on E85, tons of boost and compression and it wont detonate.

I love the sound of a cam in a 5th gen camaro. Could I run a turbo kit with a fairly big cam or would there be way to much compression?

If I was going for sound, I'd be building a Buick straight 8 like this one.

A big cam actually lowers working compression, so it helps.

That sounds like any decent 8 cyl, my truck with the big cam in it now sounds very similar. Nothing special about that.
Different engines have their sound quality advantages. I love the tone of my VQ singing at 8000rpms, it's just a noise I never get tired of. Most nissan engines do it for me actually. A properly done RB is sexy no matter what anyone says.

Listen to that engine at full boil (about 1:30 into the vid) and tell me that's not a beautiful sound. All from a tiny, high-strung 6 cyl that is making less than 250hp.

Yep, well until RPMs pickup and it starts to get some ram tuning and the dynamic compression goes up.
Lots of valve overlap is Good for topend power on NA engines, and getting a lopey idle.
Terrible for smooth idle, good fuel economy, and drivability.
Atrocious for turbo engines. Say goodbye power and hello horrendous drivability.

Im getting mixed messages. So if I were to run a fairly big cam I couldn't run a turbo set up unless I got low compression heads or pistons?
