ABS fuse?

I rarely get my 1.8 above 3k rpms. When I turn the tc off it doesn't kick in. I have done drifts across parking lots (snow of course) and spun the whole way and it has never backed the power off with the tc off. And with tc on I can still redline it.

Most of the time I turn it off it seems to stay out of my way. It's the times that it fails to do so, like almost getting me rear ended pulling out into fast traffic, that I get pissed off at it.

That's because the 1.8 doesn't have any power to begin with.

It has at least enough to anger the TC system

On a serious note. My abs/tc fuse has been removed since 500-600 miles. I felt it made driving the car dangerous when it would cut power at the slightest of spinning.

My last car, the only car I've owned up to this point, had no TC/SC or ABS and I was more than fine. I feel less safe in bad conditions in this car than I did in my old one, even though the brakes in that were faulty from day one.

Stoopid- it is likely you haven't noticed the TC's intervention as much as us for several reasons (in order of signifcance)
1.automatic trans. It doesn't cause the sudden drop and subsequent burst in power to the wheels that pi$$es of traction control, a manual is quite good at this but an auto is more subtle with power surges during hard shifts.

2. 1.8 engine. stock to stock the 1.4T and 1.8 are probably identical in theire ability to kick on TC but most of us with the fuse pulled have tuned 1.4s that are putting substanial more power than stock thru the wheels and TC just doesn't like us for it. and that's not a slight agianst the 1.8, its a fine motor!

Is it normal to have the parking brake lamp on with the ABS fuse out? I pulled it yesterday on my way out of work, and the drive home and this morning's drive to school I don't recall seeing it but I noticed it on my way back. I stopped and played with the brake and restarted the car a few times, but it stayed on. I put the fuse back in and it started working normally again. I admit I'm pretty skittish messing with this stuff.

The ABS and Brake light are always on in mine with the fuse pulled. The chime is only every once in a while.

Mine will spin pretty good in second and the TC will never come on. I don't even have it turned off.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but have searched all over and haven't found the answer: when you pull the fuse, this causes the button to no longer work (I imagine because the entire system is off) ..... Please correct me if I'm wrong thanks.

The button has several functions. Tap to switch TC from on to off, tap again to turn TC from off to on. Hold to turn SC off as well as TC off, tap to turn them both back on. None of these functions will, well, function, with the ABS fuse pulled. You must replace the fuse to get ABS, SC, and/or TC back on.

Okay.... So different problem now. I may have missed it... But I pulled the fuse last night before the ride home from work. This morning I turned it on, and spun the tires a little bit pulling off my road. When I got to work - I noticed the engine light on. I immediatly replaced the fuse but that light is still on. I'm going to take to dealer tomorrow, but idk what it could be. I have 51000 miles and no mods...

Any thoughts? about 3 hours after i posted the above post, the engine light went off. so i decided to skip the dealer, rode around for a little while, and then yesterday on my way into town stopped and decided to pull the fuse again. yet again, about 30 miles later, the engine light shows up. so i plugged it back in - and sure enough about 3 am this morning the light went off.... so im thinking they have to be connected.

I have pulled the fuse in the past but not on the Aonic.

You will get a CEL. Expect it. If you do not want the CEL put the fuse back in its slot.

I no longer pull the fuse because age has had an effect on my response times (I am only 67 and will not be 68 until next month) but when I did I both expected and got a CEL and a chime.

If you take it in to the dealer w/o the fuse. the dealer will likely just replace the fuse and note why the fuse needed to be replaced.

Ah - thanks laborsmith - much appreciated. All the reading I had done had only pointed to the main three - ABS light, Stabilitrak light and the brake light. didnt know and was surprised when i noticed the CEL light come on (about 30 minutes after the fuse was pulled)

My initial thought was you have an automatic trans, which I've heard willl throw a CEL due to something with the trans being effected(can't recall what but it made since at the time).

I've got the same model only a '12 and it never threw a CEL because of the ABS fuse being pulled, even after 20k miles. The ABS, Stabilitrac, and parking brake lights were on but no CEL.

Perhaps you could pull the fuse and then have someone at AutoZone scan it after the light comes on. I'm curious what code it's throwing.

nope, 2013 6-speed manual here. I wondered about that because I hadn't seen anything on the boards about the cel... I pulled it during lunch so I suppose a trip to AutoZone tomorrow it is!! (if it comes back on.. lol)

Solved!

So drove by Advance Auto today on the way to work for them to scan it.

Low and behold, the same code was being thrown three times:

Lost communication with the Anti-Lock Brake system


Problem solved! very weird it only throws on some cars and not others... but thanks guys!
