An FYI For Those With Similar Concerns with their Sonic...

I've been noticing my sonic has started making this banging noise underneath the car. It sounds like something's loose or something is hitting against another. I'm not really sure. It sounds like its coming from the back and I read that a lot of sonic customers have noticed its a CV joint in rear and Chevy has denied anything is wrong with it, so I just dropped her off tonight to be looked at in the morning

Bandita52 ~ Sorry to hear you have had so much bad luck with your sonic. i can definetly say that not all of the sonics are acting the same. alot of the issues others have had with their sonic i have not.
smallssonic1120 ~ I havent had anything major wrong with my sonic since i have bought it. Its been really good to me. Other than some minor things to which 90% all were warranty work related issues that were covered under recalls and such i have been very lucky with my sonic purchase. I havent had any issues with my rear end making noises like you described. Best of luck to you in getting it resolved tho. Now that i have my issue at hand resolved my sonic has been great to me. *Knocks On Wood*

Thank you, Jackie.
They are running diagnostics tomorrow and then hopefully they'll know what's wrong. I'm thinking struts or sway bar but we'll see!

Hey everyone. Just got my sonic back from chevy, they said these vehicles may have been built with stabilizer bars which may have lower ball joint boots that are subject too water and dirt intrusion. So chevy gave me a stabilizer shaft link replacement at no charge because of the over all recall for this problem.
Just in case you guys hear the same noise it might be this!

My sonic is still making that sound too. In mine it is coming from the rear of the car somewhere. its not the fuel in the tank moving around. i know sloshing fuel sound. its not that. and its not water in the heater core moving around. again, its coming from the rear of the car in my sonic. I had my dealership hold the car overnight several nights so to be able to replicate the sound and well, it got me nowhere with it. They looked over the front end of the car instead of the rear and when i mentioned it they did nothing. So i still hear it, every, damn, morning when i first put the car in gear and move it. only time i hear it. very annoying it is. Normal, it is not.
My thoughts is dew builds up in the brake area and suspension over night and when you first move the car in the morning you are moving that water around and after so far its gone and thus why it is only heard when first moved. idk. only logical thing i could think of as to why its doing it. either that or something is off or wearing out already in the back area, aka, brakes, suspension or whatever. idk. just throwing things around which is more than the dealership is even doing for me.

Yeah, I'm getting that swishing sound as well behind the dashboard. It's not ok, and the fact is it shouldn't be happening. The only time I've experienced this in other cars was when there was a problem with the pressure or heater core itself. Chevy obviously is missing something here. Lets start a thread and start getting a tally of how many people have this.
Just like the garbage plastic endlinks everyone warned me about. Yep, 15k and had to have them replaced cause they went bad. If you think there is something wrong it probably is. I don't think this is a major issue, but it needs to be addressed ASAP. Who wants to have a passenger ask why every time you accelerate it sounds like a whirl pool in your dash. Not acceptable.
PS- I love this car, just not that damn sound.

Im still having that dreadful water girgeling/gargeling and/or squeeking type sound from the REAR of my sonic. its not in the front. ive determined that. its definetly coming from the rear of the car. Its been driving me nuts so much ive had one dealership look at it already, didnt find anything, but im determined to figure this out so im going to a different one next Tuesday to see if we can figure this annoying sound out.

Start it up, let it idle down, then put it in gear and lightly ease off the brake (dont hit the gas pedal) and move the car forward is when i am hearing this dreadful sound. Took my sonic in on tuesday, let it sit overnight and went back this morning to move it with a tech guy...and what a surprise, it didnt make a single sound. Luckily i had recoreded and captured 2 different mornings on my phone of it making the noise. So i had the tech guy listen to them and he feels it is definetly something in the rear suspension thats wrong. So i sent him the files to review and use to help figure out whats wrong with my sonic. Once i know more i will update...

I do have an update to my ongoing issue with my 2012 Chevy Sonic! Day #1 at dealership, Dropped car off Tuesday evening, picked up rental, went back Wednesday morning...
Day #2 at Dealership, 9am Wednesday, Grabbed a Technician, Got in my sonic, moved the car and to no prevail, it did not make any noise as expected it wouldnt. So i had the tech guy listen to the 2 recordings i had captured of the sound from previous mornings. After reviewing the videos the tech felt the issue was indeed within the rear suspension somewhere... Later in the day the Technician pulls car into shop, checks it over, could not locate anything out of place to signal the noise being made. Understanding what was heard in the video, decided to give it one more whack at sitting over night and moving it in the morning again...
Day #3 of car at dealership (Thursday), Technician shows up for work, grabs a few co-workers and goes out to my car, and Presses down on the right side rear tire area to see if car makes a noise standing still being compressed. INDEED it did!! So they quickly got into the car, started it up, and moved it again, hearing the sound plain as day!! Technician feels it is the result of a bad shock... To verify he switched the left and right shocks and will proceed with allowing the car to sit overnight again to be tested in the morning (Friday) as it was this day above.
If sound carry's over to the other side of the vehicle then i indeed have a bad set of shocks and will need to have them replaced to which they will order a new set to be put onto the vehicle. If the noise does not carry over and still makes the noise on the same side they pressed before then they feel it is of something else causing the sound to which until it become of more frequent there is nothing they can do to know what exactly it is causing it. SO, I am hoping it is indeed the shocks and will get them replaced!! Heres to hoping this is the problem and it gets resolved this time around!
Im hoping to get my Sonic back for the weekend, would like to get some other things done to it while i have the free time to do it. But cant if i dont have the car lol. So heres to hoping they finalize its the shocks and get them repaired for me to get the car back on saturday! So far its looking good finally! Will be glad to get this resolved! It turned out to be the Shocks! New ones ordered to be repaired on monday...
I am so happy to finally have gotten this noise figured out! Determination is the key. if you feel something is wrong with your car and know its not your imagination, keep taking it in. eventually with the right dealership you will figure it out and get it resolved! Now i just have to wait til monday to get my car back lol. i miss my sonic so bad ha ha ha. Been enjoying the malibu ive been driving as a rental, but i miss my Sonic! So, my plans for this weekend have changed... but im so happy to have finally gotten this resolved! Thanks to anyone who gave me any kind of advice or info. there was a thread on here that helped me troubleshoot this to the rear end so thanks to that person who created it! FINALLY! :banana:
