Anyone losing coolant?

coolant leak under passenger side dash

Just yesterday I noticed the rubber passenger side floormat wet. I checked under the dash and could see and smell coolant. The coolant level in the reservoir showed an acceptable level. 2013 LT with 3683 miles. Headed to the dealer tomorrow, will post results.

coolant leak

my car is sitting at the dealers right now because of a coolant leak. I added coolant to it because it was low. so this is the second day for it to be sitting in the shop for them to fix. they called yesterday and was on the phone with GM they cant seem to figure out where its leaking at so they added some dye to the coolant, going to call shortly to see what the deal is on it. It has 18 thousand miles on it, the engine light came on but the car was running fine. So will let you know what I find out on it. White Sonic 2LTZ.

I called service department going to put thermostat in and keep pressure on car today to see if its okay to run, then I can go from there.
Just got call from service department the thermostat was sticking which I guess was causing the leak, should be fixed, just picked it up engine light is off. No cost to me thank goodness.

followup on interior coolant leak

Dealer called today and said my interior coolant leak was due to a faulty heater core. Parts are ordered so now I wait.... I really like my Sonic LT, was even thinking about upgrading to a RS, not sure about reliability now. We'll see....

I am having the exact same problem! Except my coolant is overflowing out of the overflow tank and down between my battery and engine. I haven't taken it in yet,because I know they have no clue what is wrong. I took it in early fall and they had no idea.

I've been having this problem too. Also seen a huge temperature fluctuation. It sometimes goes from 197° to 225° in a matter of 10-15 second while going down the highest with my cruise control at 75mph. I tried running the heater to pull off excess heat but with the composer off and it set to full heat it was still blowing cold air. Then it would start blowing hot air after a few minutes then go back to cold. All the while my temperature would fluctuate a lot.

That is normal operating temps. At least as far as I've seen but as far as your heater goes. Ya something is wrong there

Yeah but what about the coolant coming out of the overflow/release drain on the reservoir?

Ya that's not really normal I don't think.

Have you seen the spring and 2 o-rings on the coolant reservoir cap? I assume that's so if too much pressure builds up it will cause the lower o-ring to lift and release the pressure through the drain on the side of the reservoir. This would lower the boiling point and probably cause the coolant to boil. But the only reason I can think that this might might happen is if the system isn't cooling the coolant enough.

I suspect air getting into the system causing erratic cooling, heater heat and overflow.
Won't guess on the cause but perhaps drilling a 1/16 inch hole in the thermostat, around it's edge would help prevent air buildup when the thermostat is closed. When air hits the thermostat it will close. That worked well on my rustic green '94 2.2L Sundance.

Well I am the OP on this thread. Looks like I failed to keep you all updated. I did have a missing clamp. I took pics under the hood on day one. Then I was looking closely under the hood the day I brought the car home after that service visit. I noticed the clamp was there, and wasnt before.
--That just makes my original case even stronger. The tech said there was no problem at the start. He found nothing, he did nothing. But my pics show that he did find something, and he did DO something. -- Why lie about it. If you fixed a problem, shout it to the world, and be proud of it., Why try to hide it?.

What if he tore it apart and put it back together assuming he lost the clamp that he felt, or knew it should have so he just grabbed a new one? Or maybe he couldn't find a leak but decided to put a clamp on there just in case. I've done things like that in the past.

Things like that do happen and it means you cannot 100% assume he lied. I mean like you said, why lie, it won't gain anyone anything? Customers like to hear when a issue was found and solved. Its always better then "I don't know".
