Stew, I tried that last night too. Still nothing. Honestly I've never done anything with a turbo and I think I had gotten it into my head that the intake was under pressure and forgot to, you know, think for two seconds to realize it wouldn't be at idle. Either way I got no response.

Just so you guys know, the splitting that alot of you are seeing is normal. The intake manifold is 2 pieces that are bonded together and the seam is a tongue and groove type joint that is sealed on the inside of the groove. Just because the seam has a space in it doesnt mean it is open and will leak. I have bought 3 of these manifolds new from gm to do porting and all 3 were completely different. 1 had no gaps like my original stock, one had a few small gaps on bottom and the 3 rd had huge gaps top and bottom, NONE OF THEM LEAKED!!!!! So before everybody goes ape **** over this make sure its really leaking.

Yeah, just checked mine has a space but it doesn't look open so im not too worried about it.

Wonder if the new Aluminium 1.4L Turbo EcoTec from the 2017 Cruze will have an improved Intake that isn't made out of plastic.
No idea what "variable intake manifold airflow" means. Unless that's just tech-speak for 'the turbo dumps it's waste back into the engine'.

Doubt it, GM's used composite for intakes almost exclusively for ~20 years now (know the LS1 in 97 and everything newer).
I think out issue is the much higher boost pressure that most other engines (even FI) dont see. I imagine the LNF/LHUs probably get close with some mods.
If GM actually goes through with it, variable intake manifold means there's actually valves that redirect airflow through different sets of intake runners that are shorter/longer based on what the ECM wants (and RPM/MAP/boost).

The 1.8 already has this and it operates as described. It changes torque delivery based on RPM and load.

Ah didnt know that, good info! Via some quick research, appears GM used a "a rotary sleeve was used instead of a flap-switching device". Article Link

This thread caught my eye again. For several months I've noticed my LTFT's creeping up during mid to high rpm and the idle intermittently stumbling, and a high pitch whistle at idle under the hood.
I hadn't done any troubleshooting except to check the PCV diaphragm port, which was ok. Well I just looked under the hood and it seems mine has a couple splits, this would explain all three of these recent issues, looks like I'll be ordering a new manifold.
I would be up for a cast aluminum intake manifold if a nice one were to be made.

I get that random high pitch under hood whistle too.... really weird, but mine happens after I take off from a stop and gun it a lil bit then ease off the gas...
