Believe it or not, it actually took me about 2 months of owning this vehicle to discover that if I lightly tap the sunroof switch to move it backwards, that it automatically slides to the rear. My question is, why don't we have an auto-close? Or am I just missing something ...
It's a safety thing, as far as I know.
I've never had a sunroof that auto-closed. Not sure if it's a safety thing or not. I don't know why they couldn't just incorporate the same auto-close feature as the driver's door window.
I figured it auto-opened due to that feature on my previous cars. However, it took me a few tries to realize that you have to push and release almost instantly to get it to work. That's just the opposite of the driver's window and said previous auto-open sunroofs. Hmmm...
I guess they don't want anyone choking, eh? Or even worse...![]()
I can't imagine many people would be sticking their heads out the sunroof. But then again, I've seen stupider things happen ...

Heh, I almost crushed my head in the auto-close driver's door window. It was a pretty scary thing. I was leaning out to check something out when I accidentally bumped the switch. I caught it just in time, but I'll be honest, I'm pretty freaked out by it.

the sonic has an obstruction detector on the driver window (not sure about the other windows, havent tested them yet) if the window encounters an obstruction going up it automatically backs off when it hits it (similar to an elevator door)

Hi BrianH,
Try these instructions and see what happens. Vehicles with this feature, the sunroof only operates when the ignition is turned to ON/RUN or Retained Accessory Power (RAP) is active.
Open/Close: To open the sunroof, press and hold the rear of the switch. To close the sunroof, press and hold the front of the switch.
Vent: Press and hold the front of the switch to vent the sunroof.
Manually close the sunshade. The sunroof will not operate if the vehicle has an electrical failure.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi BrianH,Vanessa, None of these instructions mention anything about auto-close.
You know of course that it's technically both. ;P A moonroof is a type of sunroof; an inbuilt sunroof that slides between the roof and headliner, electric or manual. ;PI'm glad you refer to it as a "sunroof," too. When I hear "moonroof" I tend to flinch a little. haha
