Car not running right after synapse bov and catch can.

I am trifecta tuned, ecp enabled. I installed a cheapo godspeed catch can today and my ddm hard charge tube with synapse bov.

I followed the stuff I saw here for the catch can. Its intalled in the the pcv system. Used electrical tape to ensure it sealed up properly.

I installed the charge tube and ran the vacuum line from the bottom of the intake manifold to the synapse with a t to both holes like the instructions said. All I did was run a different piece of vacuum line from where it bypass mod line wasn I plugged the bpv solenoid when I did the bypass mod a couple months ago, so I didnt introduce new leaks there.

The block off plate went on fine and nice and tight.

I went out and hit okay boost in first gear(around 13-14 psi). It blew off fine, then I got no more bost than 1-2lbs. Restart the car and boost is back for one blow off, then nothing again. Can anyone help? Tried calling ddm but they are closed. The car is my daily so I need to figure itbout today.

Update. Found some huge leaks in the pcv lines and on the catch can. Sealed them up and got boost back. Might have a bad turbo...again... its smoking pretty good...its only been 4000 miles since the last one was replaced. Probably gonna go with the upgraded turbo from vtuner when I get the cash up for it.

Those cheap catch cans cause more problems then they solve. If you are using it as a band-aid for oil entering your turbo inlet....... You're gonna have a bad time. You are better off finding what's causing the oil to escape through the PCV.

I've been pushing 23psi for two years...... no catch can, no evidence of oil in my turbo inlet. So I can say that a catch can is not necessary. But if you really want one, a proper catch can will cost no less than $100, and can go upwards of $230 for a nice one.

Do you have the older style valve cover? Sounds like your PCV isn't functioning right, or your dipstick or oil cap isn't sealing well.

If those seem good, then it may very well be the turbo, but you might want to get a compression test to make sure it's not a bad piston ring first.

I dont know the difference between the older style valve cover and the newer style. I am trying to use it as a bandaid because idk what the real issue is and idk if i can afford it right now. It could be the piston rings as it is an early 2012 model. But idk if I can afford it outside of warranty. Pay to play, but I'm out of money at the moment.

Don't really have a proper set of tools or a lift or garage. Or a level driveway for that matter. Nor have I been modding cars very long. So I dont know much. I just try to take my time on everything.

Older style has a tendency to have a rupture disc failure. You'd be able to hear an air leak if it was bad. And the idle would be slightly rough. It's like $45 for the newer style one from the dealer.

Was it smoking bad before you messed with installing the catch can?

If you were driving it much while you had your temporary PCV leak, you may have pulled a bunch of oil into the intercooler. So even if everything is fine now, you may get smoking for a while.

It smoked pretty bad when I lifted from high boost. Like upwards of 12lbs. Now it smokes pretty much all the time. I think I will go to the dealer and get a new pcv line and pull the can off.

Only when I lifted from high(ish) boost. I guess I wasnt very clear.

When you lift from high boost, there is a peak in vacuum, which will easily pull any residual oil in your intercooler from the past.

No. It never cleared up completely. Just wasn't as bad after a while.

Ahhhhh. That's what I'm getting at.

So, I'm guessing that you had a bad journal bearing in your turbo..... Allowing tons of oil to be sucked passed it. Causing all kinds of smoke. Then you had the turbo replaced, and the smoking seemed to go away, but was still probably happening in smaller doses after lifting off boost.

Unless you had the intercooler and piping removed and washed in soapy water, you still have oil in them.

Then after noticing clouds of smoke, you thought: I'm gonna get a oil catch can (OCC). But in the process of installing the OCC, you had a PCV leak and introduced a whole new round of oil into your charge piping and intercooler.

First thing to do is restore you PCV to stock. Then if the smoke issues start to improve, it's an indicator that it's not something very serious, and you may want to consider taking a day to remove the charge piping, and washing them out and trying to clear out you intercooler.

If it is indeed just leftover oil in your charge system, it will sloooooowly get better and better over time. It really won't hurt anything. So if it improves to a point where it's not obnoxiously smoke screening the traffic behind you, you could just let it continue to work itself out. No real need to clean out the charge system, unless you wanna just be done with the smoke sooner.

Update:
Pulled the charge system and cleaned it out. Got rid of the catch can. Took it for a drive and warmed her up. Did a couple hard pulls. No issues. Everything was back to normal. Guess the combination of ridding myself of the cheap catch can and cleaning the charge system was right. Still gonna keep an eye on oil consumption, as I always do. Check it every time I put gas in it.
