Car shaking while idle

Yup, ive came to the realization that this is normal.... so no worries....

Update on this...
I ended up not asking the dealer to check the plug gaps, but I did mention the CEL and the shaking. They didn't mention anything when they returned the car to me, so I assumed (wrongly) that everything was A-OK.
Fast forward to Tuesday morning. The Sonic had been parked since Saturday evening, and we had a pretty cold weekend. Temps were in the teens on Tuesday morning, and when I started it up, I got the same shaking idle I had back in October, but no CEL. I let it sit for a minute or so, and it didn't return to normal. So I rolled out of my space and looped around the cul-de-sac. Even under light throttle in gear, I was getting the shaking, so it's not an idle issue. I parked it again, turned it off, turned it back on, and the shaking was gone. Haven't had it recur since.
I'm going to try to get the car in with another dealer that is local to my home (as opposed to the dealer near my office that I took it to before) and see what they can find. Hopefully the dealer didn't clear the CEL from October in the log.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like transmission to me.

It was doing this both in neutral and in gear. Car is manual. What makes you say so?

Hm. Maybe a mount then. I thought you had an auto. Mine does this, but it's an auto

When it does this, it feels like the engine is imbalanced. Sort of like a wheel that's out of round.

I have a 2012 1.4 Turbo LTZ. A few months after I got it, every once in a while it would sort of "buck" when stopped at a traffic light. I never did anything about it. Months later it got to the point that the gas tank wouldn't allow me to put in more than a bit of gas at a time. Long story short-I took it to the dealer and eventually they found that a spider had built a web completely covering the Evaporative Emission Canister Vent (or Solenoid Valve??). Anyway, since the parts were replaced, I notice that the problem has disappeared. Maybe this is a possibility???
Hi guys, I too am noticing this shaking in my Sonic (2013 LT 1.8L automatic ~24k miles). It happens when you stop at a light, or in stopped traffic. If you take it out of gear it does not shake. Shaking starts about 10 seconds after you stopped and it comes and goes. Very annoying and concerning coming from a new-ish car. This is my first car where I could feel this shake (I travel a lot for business). I think there is something wrong with the transmission or the programming for it. I see that Chevrolet has a service bulletin out for this issue.

That's exactly the problem I have. It largely went away during the warm weather, but now that the temps dropped again, it's started back up with a vengeance. You mention a bulletin - do you have a number or any other info? I really want to take it in to the dealer. If they can't identify the problem immediately they refuse to admit there is anything wrong, and this is an intermittent issue and usually happens within the first 10 minutes of starting up the car. A bulletin would be very helpful - it's a pretty scary problem.

Mine does this every morning.. I'll start the car and drive off in the morning and I'll drive maybe a mile before I do a full stop and within 5 seconds the car starts to shake feeling like its trying to take off but my foot is on the break. And I took it to the dealership and they said they can't re create it even after they kept it over night and tried it in the morning. Even took it to another dealer and no help.

My 2014 RS (~8000 miles) has been doing this, too. Lurching/surging/bucking several times at a stop light with no check engine light. I can't duplicate it, but it tends to happen randomly within a mile of start up when I come to a stop light/sign. It started happening about a month ago at ~6500 miles. About 5 occurrences so far.

This has been happening to me since I brought it with 15k on it. It has gotten worse the colder it gets. Brought it back to the dealer twice. Both times that couldn't replicate it. Now it is getting worse. Thinking about taking it to another dealer. I fear looking stupid though bringing it back 3 times for a problem they cant replicate..................

Have any of you check your spark plugs and gaps? Mine stutters very little when at a stop. I have a voltage gauge, and it tends to drop while stuttering for 1 sec then goes back to normal. Not sure if it's alternator switching or water pump kicking in. But, has to be something connected to the serpentine belt.

What you are describing to me sounds like the transmission , the sonic transmission when you come to a stop with your foot on the brakes goes Into neutral when you take your foot of the brakes you feel a slight bump or jerk in my cars case iam starting to get the rough idea at times too. I was told it was the clutch packs in the transmission causing this .
