Equipped with 1.4L Engine (RPOs LUJ, LUV) and 6T40 Automatic Transmission (RPO MH8)
Vehicles Built Prior to January 1, 2013
Condition/ConcernSome customers may comment on a bump feeling, a surge or an engine vibration while stopped at idle with the transmission in Drive and their foot on the service brake.

Note: This condition is only when stopped at idle with the transmission in Drive and foot on the service brake.

Recommendation/InstructionsThis condition may be caused by the transmission Neutral Idle feature.
Important: The Neutral Idle feature will only function when transmission fluid temperature is 37°C (99°F) or greater. Verify that the transmission fluid temperature is 37°C (99°F) or greater before diagnosing this condition.

When the concern occurs, move the transmission shift lever to the manual position.
Moving the transmission shift lever to the manual shift position will prevent the Neutral Idle feature from functioning.
If the concern is eliminated by moving the transmission shift lever to the manual position, it is caused by the Neutral Idle feature and variation in the 1-2-3-4 clutch fiber plates. The 1-2-3-4 clutch fiber plates should be replaced with the part number listed below. This is a kit that contains two clutch fiber plates.
If the concern is not eliminated by moving the transmission shift lever to the manual position, it has a different cause and further diagnosis is required.

I pretty much have the same problem with my Sonic 2013, Auto, LT Model. I haven't felt the shake in my girlfriends Sonic 2013, also Auto LT Model, but hatchback. I definitely will have to ask her if she ever felt it. But I agree on the most posts that have the issue within 1-5 minutes of the star up, mainly when a full stop is done and the vehicle is in standstill.

I had a pretty bad shake on my 2012 hatchback and took it into Chevy and they were, as expected, no help at all. Later, I was checking my air box and realized the the duct leading from the intake box to the engine was totally cracked. Turns out it is a huge problem that Chevy is choosing to ignore. After ordering the part online and replacing it (10 minutes), the vibration has all but stopped. It is amazing how much it was affecting my car. Might be worth checking out.

Forgot to mention: the shaking feels a lot like a big truck passing by on a bridge. The car seems to want to go forward and can't. I keep wondering if the breaks are going to fail one day and it will jump into the car in front of me.
