I use to be a aluminum/light weight flywheel fan. Not no more... Even though we sell them (for other applications) they are weaker/break, and suck to daily drive, as you can kill the engine so easy!

Stock flywheel is the best route IMO.

How much does the stock flywheel weigh? I feel like its not that big of a deal as long as its tuned properly.

Also keep in mind that not everyones sonic is geared tall. My car is pretty hard to stall honestly, It doesnt take throttle to take off in first, I can roll the clutch out on a pretty steep hill and it will putt along at 3 mph smoothly.

Ill buy a beefier clutch eventually, and if noone makes a lightweight flywheel at that point ill make a trip to the machine shop.

It looks like the ring the pressure plate mounts to actually juts out from the friction surface, could make it hard to shed weight while still being in balance, you could get rid of all of that but youd have to redesign the pressure plate and everything.

Wow, that's a much bigger job than I thought. They've had to pull the transaxle and sub structure, and now are moving the engine, in order to get in there and swap the new parts in. It seems there's just no room in there. Really glad I decided this one was above my skill level!

Sadly I don't have time to get most of the operation, ferrying a sick friend around to hospitals for cat scans and such. I got some shots and can maybe get more tomorrow, but it won't be a blow by blow photomontage.

Got some more pics this morning, interesting to look up into the engine with so much hardware removed. Also got to look into the fender to see the OEM snorkel, that's not what I pictured from what I'd read.
