The top right side of the motor,underneath it is the oil filter.

That is the water outlet if you have the 1.4L. Could be the plastic water outlet is failing (plastic is cracked/falling apart/corroded) this happened to me couple weeks ago.

How were you sure that was the problem and how much did it cost for you to replace? And yes I have a 1.4l

For about 5 months i had noticed my coolant level was slowly going done but with no noticable location for the leak
. Fustraded at wasting money on coolant, i inspected every hose and hose connect point on the car while it was cold, then took it for 1hr drive thru the town and then on the hwy and really pushed her and drove home. While still running i looked everything over again and found coolant on splashes below the engine and up to the trans and water outlet and the big hose was wet. So i cleaned it and saw the smallest of leaks at the top of the hose, check the hose and it was shot and bloated. This was the only leak i found.
Long story short got new silicone hoses.... couple months later the leak is back, so i feel the hose at the water outlet (was leaking here just like before) and its got a lot of play, almost spongy . Looked up the part that night and replaced it that week.
The part cost me $18 from amazon plus new coolant and 1.5 hrs.
GF gets annoyed with me sometimes, the slightest noise, change in feel i pick up on it and i end up looking into it.

Side note, if your still under warrenty it should be covered (the water outlet).. mine was unfortunately up and they wanted 280 for an 18 part.
Just want to point out i am not a mechanic. Im diy, tinkerer and i take my time trouble shooting and i spend alot of time researching before i tackle a problem.
Did this with the GF's G6 V6, that was having eng temp issues. Spent two weeks researching the engine, known issue, causes, parts... etc. Replaced the tstat (damn car took 2.5 hrs to burp the system). Few days later periodicly checking everything and her car still had a leak. Pull air box and run the car and inspect everything and see coolant flying off the s belt... wipe everything down and notice the water pump went from aluminum to a brownish orange, wipe and does it again, blown water pump. Sry i digress.

I believe the thermostat is on the passenger side connected to the water pump, the water outlet comes with a temp sensor in it.
Yes alot connected to one crappy piece of plastic: the large hose goes to the radiator, the small top hose to the reservoir tank, and the back hose to the heater core in the cab.

That is exactly the same leak i had. The water outlet is failing, i would replace it asap. This is what mine looked like when i replaced it, see attached pic. Note, because of the hose i could not see the condition of the outlet till after i removed it.
If your still under warrenty it should be covered by chevy dealer. Id show them that pic and you could also show them the pic i uploaded after replacing.

If your doing it your self;
* socket is a E10 star socket torq spec 71 inch/lbs.
* Get a new hose line from the radiator to the water outlet that is leaking and possibly new from reservoir tank to water outlet.
* Water outlet https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014RF7SW6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
* coolant, dexos 50/50
* need to diconnect the wire harnesses to the coilpack, throttle body and throttle body charge hose, o2 sensor wire that is on the water outlet.
* options, you can drainthe system to the lowest point of the water outlet or flush the whole system and replace with new.
* disconnect hoses and remove old part, clean off the block, install new part and torq to spec and connect hoses, fill. Connect all the wires and tb chsrge hose and burp system.
If you need any more info, let me know. GL hope all goes well.

I'm leaking coolant, but mine is coming from a bolt on the water pump. Crazy! The bottom of my transmission is covered in burnt coolant.

That should be covered under the extend warranty GM added to the water pump, id have to look it up but its like 10yrs/150k miles i think.

After removing the hose to inspect,I noticed the top portion of the water outlet had a piece broken off.i ordered the piece already.

I have been losing coolant very slowly. My coolant tank has 2 sharpy marks where the levels used to be. The dealer did a pressure test, but no issues.
