Cruze intake

Any ideas if the Cruze intakes that are available will be compatible with the Sonic. I know the engine is the same but is there enough room in the engine bay?

I'd be curious to know that myself. Do you happen to know the claim for hp boost when adding any of the Cruze intakes? (to a Cruze, that is)

I think I'd rather have a SRI instead of a CAI... unless the CAI is routed over to the side and not so far downward. The whole hydrolock issue kinda' scares me away from a CAI.

I wish it was possible to route it towards the front of the faicia more. Than at least we could get "cooler" air to the engine. Seems like the intake is in the dreaded heat zone...

Does it add any hp/tq ?

Where does the stock intake draw air from? Is there an inlet near the grille? The only thing that concerns me about intakes like the ZZP one pictured is that they draw hot air from the engine bay.

I would really like to see some data on manifold temperatures with a CAI vs a short ram. With a turbo heating up the air and then the puny IC attempting to cool it back down, I wonder how much of a difference the initial intake charge temp makes.

That looks to be about where the intake was before honestly, however the pathing looks far cleaner on that intake.

Yeah, but isn't the stock intake an airbox with a duct to the front of the car?

Yeah but you can leave in the tubing in the wheel well with an SRI. With a CAI you need to remove the wheel well tubing. The air comes in I think right near the fog light on that side.

Forgot to ask does the intake bolt down still in the Sonic? I would just think that the engine bay would be different by just enough where you couldn't properly secure the intake.

I think I'll just sit back and see if K&N (and other vendors) will release something for us. K&N has one for the Cruze, but no idea if the heatshield would work right on a Sonic.

Nothing against ZZP, I like their stuff for sure. I would like to purchase their o2 housing for sure.

As will I. As a matter of fact, a lot of factory airboxes have enough flow to sustain most cars through the lowers "stages" of modding. Like on Subaru, until you are way up there in HP and mods, the factory airbox is more than sufficient.

I don' think the intake will perform much better on the car than a k&n filter would in the stock intake. It may help out as you said with heavy modifications later down the line but someone needs to push the car hard on the stock intake to really find out. The bottom line on the intake is that is looks good and I am sure it sounds cool as well. Most people will buy it just for that alone.

That's the main reason I wanna get an intake. I had a k&n Sri in my celica gts and loved the woosh sound it made without a turbo. I know the sonics turbo won't be as loud as your cobalt since the turbo is so much smaller but it should still be audible.

to add a little something here to think about, the cover for the airbox i'm assuming is set up like the cruze. The MAF is right at the lip on the outside. If you flip it over you'll see that its really a velocity stack. Albeit with a grille over it, but thats what it is. The engineers did a good job designing the intake piping (which is part of the reason mine is still stock). Clean linear airflow over the MAF is achieved via the velocity stack, and the proper sized piping doesn't let the air stagnate or screw with the tune. Now i will say that i hate the accordion plastic tubing. Find something nice and smooth to go from the lid of the airbox to the turbo thats the same ID as the OEM and you've got a winner. No you won't hear the wooosshhhhh.. but feeding your car cold(er) air is worth it IMO.

I've been planning on removing the grille from the velocity stack, but i haven't gotten around to it. Once i can get my car to hook up again, i'll start looking for power again. Its just kind of pointless atm when you can break the tires loose just rolling into the throttle as it is. (hard eco tires and no LSD )

I assume the grill over the tube is an air straightener? Without that the MAF readings might not be as accurate, but who knows without logging before/after.
