I would think a Lawn Boy would be of higher quality than a K-Mart branded mower.

This thing runswell on 2 cycle mix even though it is a 4 stoke. Quick puff of smoke on start up and then no smoke at all. It is getting a little tired. excessively long grass and weeds (mostly weeds since that is all that seems to grow well in my yard) will bog it down and sometimes stall it out, but other wise it runs strong.

Why would you want to run oil\gas mix in a 4 stroke engine? Of course its going to run but why man why!

I've had many mowers but one thing I can say for sure is the design of the deck matters more than the quality of the engine. We just replaced a cheap $150 Lowes lawn mower with a $400 Honda and I'll never go back. I can mulch thick grass and I can bag thick wet grass with no clogging at all.


Just replaced as in last fall, but close enough.

We run mixed fuel in anything requiring leaded gas. Like the international cub and ford 2000 my dad has, both designed for leaded gas. It helped in top end Lubrication. Running a slight oil mix helps it.

It started with me being to lazy to go buy more gas for the mower and just throwing in the mix for the weed whip. The mower ran much better on the mix. If it runs better on it, why keep two gas cans when I only need one??

My only issue is the lack of a vent on the gas cap any more. I looks as though there is a piece missing that would act as a vent. Right now the mower will run great and then start to act up and try to stall. If I crack the cap loose just as it starts the issue goes away. Otherwise I have to restart. Quick prime with the cap loose and one pull of the cord and it fires right up again.

I really don't know other then I'd expect it to soot up \ crud up valves and spark plugs more.

Besides that assumption the fact is the oil does cost money so you're wasting that money.

BTW $ub, you can buy lead additive. My boss used to insist on putting it in the "A" before I made him stop. Low compression, soft valve springs on an engine built before they started adding lead to fuel = doesn't need lead.

Lead = stinks and eats exhaust systems out.

Ya I know, we can get a small bottle of the cheap no name 2 stroke oil for like $1.50. And just add the small thing to every 5 gallons. It's just enough to keep things from making noises. Been doing it for years with no problems

Dump diesel in it after you got it nice and hot. That should take care of it quickly

Run some race gas thru it and that'll take care of her.

Ran some +$10 gallon oxygenated 108 oct race gas thru the brigs pressure washer once.

Yep once, made it about 4 minutes and then it quit to never start again.

The old, old power washer lasted over 10 years on 87 oct. The new one died after 3 years usually running 93 oct or race gas from the bike since it was more convenient. I swear it ran great on it thou

An old "trick" for cleaning valves, is to drop a teaspoon of ATF into the throttle body. It'll smoke like a S.O.B. for a couple seconds, but breaks up the build up on the valves and pistons.

When I was growing up I use to help my dad in the summer work on semis. We would dump whole quarts of ATF in the fuel tanks to clean them things out. It works really well

Haha ya, all jokes aside. We did actually run a quart of ATF fluid in each fuel tank in the winter time. Kept the top ends quiter.

Ever try to tell someone to fix a radiator with jb weld it's funny to watch. Hahaha

I've always found driving the company model A around town pretty satisfying. With the occasional backfire and slight grind when shifting depending on how well I double clutch... and people love it when you AROOOOGA! them.

Don't know how it would go if you combined that with blasting Metallica..... I think it would be a buzzkill. That and the fact I haven't cared for them since the whole Napster thing went down.


Anyone that thinks the 1.4 sonic is weak and grinds a lot should try driving a stock model A. 40HP at the crank, 100% manual spark advance and a 3 speed non-synchronized trans filled with 300W oil makes for a slow, loud, vibrating and grindy trip. I'm pretty good at upshifting but my downshifting is a bit rough sometimes and sometimes I forget to retard the timing at stop lights.
